When it comes to summer beauty trends, this season, it's all about bright orange. Whether it's on your lips, nails, eyes, or cheeks, this vibrant hue looks absolutely rockin' in the summer sun. An easy way to wear this trend is by pairing an orange lip with a basic, neutral eye - this allows the focus to stay on your bold lips.
Given that I'm obsessed with this trend, today I'll be sharing my favorite orange lipsticks for the season, with a mix of high-end and lower-end picks that vary in color, texture, opaqueness, and price, all tested by yours truly! Scroll down to check out my six favorite orange lipsticks for summer 2013:
1) L'Oreal Colour Riche Colour Caresse in "Fiery Veil"
This lipstick is indeed "fiery", with the orange hue mixed with a little bit of a red, which creates the illusion of, well, fire.
This lipstick is so smooth and creamy - it feels like your lips are being moisturized even when you're piling on the color. The color payoff is great, and very buildable, meaning you have the choice to make it either extremely sheer or nice and opaque, depending on your preference.
2) Revlon Color Burst Lip Butter in "Tutti Frutti"
I have raved about the Revlon Lip Butters before and I will again: I absolutely LOVE them. Their consistency is sooooo smooth and moisturizing, but will also give your lips an incredible shine.
This color - called "Tutti Frutti" - looks like it's going to be extremely vibrant, but is actually very sheer. If you're looking to hop in on the orange lip trend but are a little bit hesitant, then I would definitely recommend grabbing this shade - it will give your lips a soft tint, without being too extreme.
3) Maybelline Color Sensational Vivids Lipcolor in "Electric Orange"
I've used this color from Maybelline in a post before, and ever since, it has definitely been my go-to orange lipstick. This shade is so bright and opaque that it looks like you're wearing a traffic cone on your lips - but in a good way!
Now, fair warning: If your makeup style is sweet, subtle, or understated, this shade may be too loud and bold for you. But for me, I love going all out, and this is the lipstick really wowed me. It's definitely the one to try if you want to make a big statement.
4) Revlon Color Stay Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in "Rendezvous"
I guess I'm guilty of loving Revlon lipsticks, because that's really where a majority of my lipsticks are from - they really are a fabulous drugstore brand. This shade from Revlon is comparable to the next lipstick I'm going to show you from Tarte, but this color is more of an orange-coral shade, while the one below is more pink.
I like this color because it's very low-maintenance, you don't need a mirror to apply it! And, you don't have to worry the color bleeding - once it's on, it's on. If you're looking for an orange color with a coral undertone, then I definitely suggest checking this one out!
5) Tarte LipSurgence Natural Lip Tint in "Joy"
Like I mentioned above, this high-end beauty pick is comparable to the Revlon lip stain I just showed you. However, this color is a little more coral-y pink than the last one, so if you love coral lips, but also want test out a trendy orange, then I do recommend this one!
I really like the Tarte lip stains and own a couple of colors. The finish is great, they're extremely smooth and easy to apply, and they smell and taste like mint. Tarte's lip stains are quite refreshing for summertime!
6) MAC Lipstick in "Tart and Trendy"
MAC has a new collection out called "All About Orange", which features a bunch of different lipsticks in a range of colors, all in the orange spectrum.
I picked out the shade "Tart and Trendy" because it's a lustre, meaning that the color is buildable. If you're not 100% sold on the trend but might end up wanting to go bold, I really recommend picking up this shade in particular (Tart and Trendy), because you can start out by making it extremely sheer, but then build the color up into a dark, deep yet bright orange!
Although this lipstick is currently sold out online, be sure to check out your local MAC store or counter to see if it's still available. (That's what I did!)
So, what do you guys think of this trend? Are you a fan of orange? Would you ever consider wearing orange lipstick? If you have, which colors/brands do you recommend? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
