Would You Wear… Vertically Striped Pants?

Over the past few weeks, we’ve noticed Beetlejuice-inspired fashion showing up in more places than just our blog: For Fall 2012, vertical striped pants are the next big thing. These dramatic trousers definitely make a statement, but the question is: Is this trend wearable on campus, off campus, or absolutely nowhere at all?
Don’t be concerned about looking like a jailbird because there are plenty of different looks to try. There are several styles available in stores, from wide-leg pants to trousers, and high-waisted to low-cut. Bold fashionistas love wide-leg versions that are tight up top, but if you prefer a more subtle look, opt for a basic skinny jean with light stripes (like the Topshop version above).
The question is… would YOU wear vertically striped pants?
We want to know what you think! Leave your comments below. Are these around for good or just for fun? Would you wear them? If yes, then how would you wear them?

Maybe the first pair, but I’m not fond of stripes on any clothing I just feel like I’m in jail. lol
Catherine
Absolutely! Vertical stripes have a slimming effect, and with the right shirt (something pretty plain) and a pair of simple heels, I think it could look fantastic!
Esther
Not so sure about pants, but I’ve been on the lookout for vertically striped tights for a year! It might be easier to go for the pants, as they’re apparently find-able now lol

it’s called “pinstripe” and it’s been around for forever, maybe you can find wider stripes, but it’s not that big of a deal. (don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the style, I have two pin stripe suits myself, but it’s definitely really easy to wear, even the wide stripes.)

(I meant that I love striped pants and that even the wider stripes and the new styles aren’t hard to wear because we already have had striped pants of some variety around in conservative business wear for awhile so it’s not too risque and there’s something else to pattern after)

I have vertically stripped shorts and I really like it. My favourite outfit was with a horizontally striped shirt.

My legs are longer than my torso, so no. I can’t pull them off.
Little J
YES! Absolutely! They look amazing, but I am not sure if they would fit me as I am short. But if they will I would absolutely wear them!
Cristina
Yes I would totally wear them.
Cristina
I’d wear the ones on the right.
Limecakes
Absolutely not. They remind me of beetlejuice. Same goes for vertical striped- anything.
Jennifer
If I knew I could pull them off, then sure! I especially love the first pair.

The girl with pink top and brown belt in the second pic reminded me of a… modern and tryng-to-be-chic Obelix. Not very flattering, but trying, though.
First pic looks really cool, on the other hand.

I would wear the heck out of vertically striped trousers! I almost got my hands on some from the limited edition H&M line in London, but just barely couldn’t go in time. I can’t wait to find a pair. They’re so fun and flattering.
Ali
I’d wear them because they make me look taller haha. And they’re super cute too. If they make me look like Beetlejuice, who cares? They come in other colors as well and it really doesn’t matter what people think.

I actually bought a pair of high-waisted black and white stripe pants in August. I wear them everywhere.
Hannah
I’m a huge fan of the Beetlejuice leggings by Black Milk Clothing!
Savannah
Heck yeah! I’ve been dying to get my hands on a pair for a few months now, but I can never find them in my size (and at a decent price). I like wearing lots of neutral colors and pairing them with one bright piece, so this would go perfect in my closet.

I love these! I think the paper-bag-waist ones are a little overly trendy, but wearing them with an oversized shirt or sweater would be really fun for fall!
Isla
I love these, although I think I would be sticking to the thicker stripes. I definitely want a pair! Maybe you guys could do a post on how to style them?
Bianca
No way. These would not flatter me at all :(
steph
If they were skinny stripes yes. It’s nothing new really, its simply a modern take on pin stripes and corderoy, both of which are technically vertical stripes.

I have a pair of jeans that have 2 vertical orange stripes on each leg on the front. I like them very much and I don’t know how to pair them with tops. …did I mention that they are flared?

I love the second outfit. Such a funky way to style these pants! I would definitely wear them. It’ll be so much fun to wear them out.
alexandra
no. way. they look too punk rock for me.
Maria
I like them but everybodys been wearing them for months so I didn’t buy any cause I didn’t want the same black and white ones I was seeing on literally everyone and I prefer skirts/dresses/shorts rather than pants so I got vertically striped tights instead
Asia
I just bought a pair of striped pants. I have an idea of how to wear them but am lost. Could you direct me to one of your articles or do one on how to go about wearing them? Thanks!
