Would You Wear… Cat Eye Sunglasses?

1. Scarlett Johansson, 2. Alexander Wang sunglasses on the runway, 3. Dree Hemingway
Summer 2010 is rapidly approaching, and with the summer sun comes the need for statement-making eyewear. And cat eye sunglasses are the shade style of the moment for models, celebs, and fashionistas everywhere.
The cat-eye sunglasses trend was, of course, sparked on the Spring/Summer 2010 runways back in September, when fashion houses such as Alexander Wang and Prada sent models down the runway rocking the retro frames. And the look has caught on fast – everyone from Lady Gaga to Scarlett Johansson has been spotted wearing a pair of cat-eye shades recently.
Personally, I’m in love with Alexander Wang’s sunglasses above (look below for the link to a decent knockoff pair from ASOS) because they’re so fresh and different, two qualities I look for in a pair of sunglasses. While I do own classic shades, in general, my mantra is: the more attention-grabbing the sunglasses, the better. Summer is the best time to have fun with your wardrobe – so why not rock one accessory that’s a little crazy? It’s always better than blending in.

I would! Fun trend.

I’m in LOVE with those Alex Wang glasses, but even more in love with the ones you linked to from Asos because they are similar and much more affordable. I’m definitely going to get them!
Kristen
I have a pair of bright blue cat eye sunglasses, and I love them! I get compliments every time I wear them, and no one suspects that I only paid $5 for them.
Jessica
I think they’re fun but having quite a square face, I need round glasses to balance it out, so I’ll leave this one to rounder faced fashionistas out there, like Scarlett (I just bought turquoise H&M sunglasses anyway).
Milana
Yes, but the really catty ones… Something subtle!

Love the article on cat eye sunglesses, I’d wear them because I have an oval face and I think they should suit it.
Ally
I’d pass on this trend. I tried on a seemingly cute cat eye pair of Ray Bans the other day and they were over the top! This is just another permutation of the “sunglasses too wide for your face” trend.
Carolanne
my actual eyeglasses (not sunglasses) are leaning more towards the cat eye shape, and i really like them! albeit, they are not as “catty” as your sunglasses examples above, but still there!
so, yes! i would definitely try this trend out! in fact, i have been wanting to for a while! i think catty glasses (eyeglasses or sunglasses) are really cute and quirky! =]

I would totally go for this trend if I didn’t need my glasses all of the time. I like the ones Scarlett Johansson has on!
Mae
I wouldn’t wear them.
I think they are really fun looking, but I’m fairly certain they wouldn’t look very attractive on me. :P
Liz
They look a little more “bug eye” to me, but maybe?!
Amile
Of course I would! They look cute and glamourous at the same time
Dominique
I feel like these glasses make people’s faces look a little severe… some of the ones with just a slight cat eye in the corner are nice, but I dunno… I guess this trend just isn’t for me.
Great article, though. c:

Yesyesyes! I’ve loved this look since it first debuted, while I may not wear the exaggerated A.Wang ones, I definitely am on the lookout for an understated pair. I love how Dree Hemingway rocks them, she’s so cool.

I have a pair of cat shape eye glasses and I love them! They are not as extravagant as the ones you showed, but I always get complement on them. They are very cute.
Ksenija
Absolutely not. They do not make any face look lovely.
Madeleine
I do like cat eye sunglasses but they simply do not feel fresh and have been in the mainstream for about two years so I wouldn’t say that I’m exactly excited about them.
Emma
I have the A. Wang ones and they make me feel fabulous everytime I wear them! SUCH a feel good piece.
Cara
Love the ones Scarlett Johansen has on, but I splurged on a pair of classy Audrey-esque shades last summer, so I’ll only be trying this if I can find a cheap knock-off. Cat eyes forever, though! My regular eyeglasses are a narrow cat eye, almost like an oval, rather than a round, based cat eye, and I get so many compliments on them because they are so quirky-vintage-pretty. I have a heart-shaped face, so their slightly wider frame works for me even though I’m small-boned because that’s about the widest part of my face.
aish
i like
but wouldnt splurge on them
Bunny
I’ve been rocking classic cat eye sunglasses for YEARS and have had smirks and stares.
But I hate when fun unique vintage-ish items go trendy. You know how much my beloved leopard print cat eye classes cost? 10$. Now I won’t be able to get a pair under $20….
Melyssa
Would I wear cat’s-eye sunglasses? No, but I would have clear prescription lenses put in those frames. The sharper the angle, the better I like them. Cat’s-eyes are the second prettiest frame there is, after drop-temples, of course.
