Would You Wear… a Mesh Tank?

When I say that mesh tops are going to be the hot new thing, I’m not talking about cute, fashion-forward micromesh. I’m referring to none other than athletic mesh tops – yes, straight out of Physical Education class.
You know exactly which kinds of tops I’m talking about; think back to the days when you played kickball in elementary school and you had to choose between a red or blue mesh top. That is precisely the kind of mesh that has started popping up on stylish girls around the globe.
I am skeptical about how mainstream this trend will actually become. I love the street style looks and Isabel Marant Spring 2011 runway look (all pictured above) but can also see this style going horribly wrong. These mesh tops are cute layered over a button-up, over a dress or tucked into a pretty skirt, but are they really something the average college girl will add to their wardrobe? Personally, it’s tough for me to look at them and not be plagued with memories of my reprehensible gym class history.
Would you wear an athletic mesh tank?

I love the center outfit, but I’d wear a tank under the mesh of course. It’s an interesting contrast from see-thru lace tops and makes the outfit less sweet and girly. I’m not sure if I’ll be wearing this trend or not just yet though.

I probably would not try this trend. It is too hard to pull off in a classy way and the look really isn’t my style…

I think it could be pretty cute. I really like the third picture, where the mesh is layered over a patterned top. It adds edge!

I love the outfit on the left, the combination of the leather skirt, the black mesh top, the khaki blouse and those different necklaces is awesome! I would totally wear that outfit! ?

When I was at the beach these were EVERYWHERE. However, the ones people were wearing looked like legit pinnies. These ones are much, much cuter. I love the middle outfit the best.

I think there’s a rather big difference between pinnies, which is what I think you’re referring to, and the sheer tops pictured in this post. The outfits pictured are amazing, I would definitely wear them. But looking like a lax bro? Not so much.

All the outfits you’ve shown look really stylish–I would definitely wear any of those. However, I don’t know if I’d pick up a mesh tank on my own. After seeing this though, I don’t know–I’m very ambivalent about it.

I like mesh, but I’d wear a tank or tee underneath it. You can see the girl in the middle’s nipples. And I for sure don’t want people seeing my bra. I have a mesh scarf though. It has a huge hole in it from when my mom cut it up for my brother’s knight Halloween costume years ago, so sometimes I wear it over a shirt.

I’d wear one. A cute floral one like the 3rd picture.
I’m on the quest for one now.

I’m a little hesitant about the athletic mesh, but these looks definitely glammed them up. I think with the right layers and accessories, it could definitely work.
