What goes around comes around, and that’s true of even the most controversial trends of decades past. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that one of the more contentious styles of the 2000s, low rise jeans, are now making a comeback.

Understandably, you might have less than positive associations with low rise jeans. This is primarily thanks to their sister trend… the whale tail (shudder).

But, when styled the right way, low rise jeans can not only look modern, but also classy and chic.

If you’ve got no clue how to wear low rise jeans, I put together three cute looks as inspiration. Hopefully these outfits will inspire you to give the trend a second chance.

Are low-rise jeans Still in Style in 2023?

Fashion is a dynamic and ever-changing industry, and what is considered fashionable can change quickly. Low-rise jeans were a popular style in the early 2000s and have since fallen out of favor to some extent.

However, trends have a tendency to cycle and it’s possible that low-rise jeans could make a resurgence in popularity in the new year 2023. It is always important to wear what you feel comfortable and confident in, regardless of current fashion trends.

Low-rise Jeans Vs. High-rise Jeans

Low-rise jeans sit lower on the hips and have a waistband that sits below the navel, while high-rise jeans sit higher on the waist, with the waistband typically above or at the navel.

The main difference between the two is the placement of the waistband, which affects the overall fit and look of the jeans. Low-rise jeans can create a more relaxed, casual look, while high jeans can create a more put-together, sophisticated appearance.

The choice between low-rise and high jeans often comes down to personal preference and body type, as some people find low-rise jeans more comfortable, while others prefer the coverage and support provided by high jeans.

Low Rise Jeans Outfit #1

Outfit 1: white button up blouse, dark wash jeans, striped espadrille shoes, black oversized sunglasses, gold earrings, and a brown bucket bag

Products:

This outfit features simple elements and clean lines. It’s perfect for those who are looking for how to wear low rise jeans in a more classic and timeless way than typically associated with the trend.

To begin, put on a crisp white puff sleeve shirt cut in the a-line silhouette. Next, add a pair of low rise skinny jeans in dark wash.

Keep jewelry and other accessories to a minimum to keep it classy. I picked out a pair of chunky mini gold hoops, along with oversized black sunglasses.

Choose a simple shoe style like these striped espadrilles and grab a woven bucket bag. Now you’re all set!

Low Rise Jeans Outfit #2

Outfit 2: white and yellow sporty polo, low rise boyfriend jeans, dark blue denim jacket, tie dye sneakers, brown leather crossbody bag

Products:

If you were a fan of the preppy trend that dominated much of 2000’s and want to know how to wear low rise jeans in that way, look no further.

Pair a boxy striped polo with low rise boyfriend jeans. Unlike the jeans featured in outfit #1, these ones boast deconstructed details, making for a more relaxed look.

A denim jacket adds to the laid back vibe of this look. A daisy pendant necklace and tie dye slip-ons really bring home the throwback vibe.

Looking for a bag? This circular leather crossbody pulls the entire look together.

Low Rise Jeans Outfit #3

Outfit 3: black top, black jeans, pink heeled sandals, gold bag

Products:

For the final outfit, I put together a modern-day version of the 2000’s “going-out” outfit, which often consisted of a dressy “going-out top,” jeans, and heels.

I chose to create this particular outfit in all black with pops of bright pink and gold. However, feel free to experiment with different color combinations depending on the type of look you’re going for.

To wear this outfit, start off by putting on flowy babydoll crop tops and add a pair of coated low-rise skinny jeans.

A black blazer with a cool pearl closure strikes the balance between classic and edgy, while bright pink heeled sandals and starburst earrings truly make the outfit feel special.

To finish off the look, go for a bag that’s equally statement-making, such as this metallic gold faux crocodile.
