New year, new start! In 2011, you can be anything that you would like to be. Maybe this is your year to get absolutely perfect grades or to finally be on time. Maybe this is your year to fall in love, or to fall in love with being single. Perhaps this is even the year to become famous, or infamous.
No matter what your New Year's resolutions might be, you should absolutely make the following three New Year's beauty resolutions. You'll be surprised at how gorgeous they will make you feel, inside and out.
1. I will not use my nails as tools.
Here's a little story that may sound familiar to you, about a girl that we'll call "Jane". Jane meets sparkly new nail polish color. Jane loves the color. Jane uses the color. Jane is happy. Jane gets tons of compliments. Jane buys her BFF Jack a birthday present and scratches off the price tag with her newly-done nails. Jane opens a jar of candy using her nails. Jane essentially confuses her nails with power tools on an hourly basis. Suddenly, Jane wonders why her nails look like a hot mess.
See where I'm going with this? JANE (AND YOU!) HAVE TO STOP! Your nails were meant for good - if you want them to look good, stop using them as tools that are magically always handy.
2. I will throw out my makeup on time.
Yes, I am fully aware that you absolutely love the way that shade of lip gloss sparkles and the way your mascara allows you to flutter your eyelashes just perfectly. But there is simply nothing sexy about the icky bacteria that can get into makeup if you hold on to it for too long!
Here are a few guidelines for when to throw your precious tubes and tubs away: While eyeshadow and eye liner can last for a good 3 years, you should throw out mascara approximately every 4 months. As for lipstick and nail polish, 1 year is the date to keep in mind.
3. I will try a hairstyle straight from the runway.

It's true that the runway can often be used as a source of inspiration for your style, instead of directly translating into it. However, some recent runway looks are simply too fabulous to be ignored. While of course you might pay attention primarily to the clothes, you would be doing yourself a great disservice to ignore the hairstyles teams of aesthetic gurus have chosen to complement the looks for a season.
Whether you try BCBG's just-messy-enough low chignon, Lacoste's sassy, I-Love-the-'80s side pony, or L.A.M.B.'s oh-so-sultry bangs, you'll be sure to turn more than a few heads!
