5 Ways to Wear Your Favorite T-Shirt in a Stylish Way

Who doesn’t just love a worn-in, slightly faded t-shirt? From ones with funny catchphrases or pictures, to those that act as souvenirs from memorable nights, tees are a great way to make a statement about yourself.

Between concert keepsakes, sorority and club uniforms, and the crazy and hilarious selection at Urban Outfitters, I’ve managed to stockpile probably 50 t-shirts over the last couple of years! Sure, they’re comfortable, and awesome for lazy days (or even to sleep in!) but what’s a girl to do when she wants to rock a tee AND still look stylish?

Yes ladies, you can have your cake and eat it too. Today, I’m going to share a few different ways you can rock your favorite t-shirt and still look unique and cute for class. Read on!

1. Add a Cute Jacket

T-shirt outfit 1: Beatles Abbey Road tee, cutoff denim shorts, military jacket, two-finger ring, sandals
T-Shirt, Shorts, Sandals, Ring, Jacket

One of the most basic ways to spruce up a t-shirt is by pairing it with a cute structured jacket or a cardigan, as opposed to a frumpy hoodie. Small details, like adding a ring, fishtail braiding your hair instead of throwing it into a sloppy ponytail, and wearing gladiator sandals instead of flip flops can make all the difference in how you look and feel. The best part is, these little extras take just seconds to add — you’ll look great, but still make it to class on time.

2. Try It with a Skirt

T-shirt outfit 2: Light pink swing skirt, graphic tee, striped wedges, fedora

Another easy way to wear a t-shirt and still look cute is to tuck it into a skirt. I especially like this pretty pink circle skirt since it’s slightly high-waisted – it’s dressy enough to wear on a date or look put-together in class, but isn’t so fancy that you compromise comfort. Pair this look with wedges — stilettos can look strange with something as casual as a graphic tee — and finish the look with a quirky fedora and statement ring.

3. Go for an Androgynous Look

T-shirt outfit 3: Androgynous look with boyfriend jeans, red graphic tee, basic toms shoes, messenger bag, belt, menswear watch, beanie

The relaxed look and feel of your favorite tee will look great with a pair of boyfriend jeans and a few deliberately placed menswear accessories. Experiment with beanies, classic leather belts, different pairs of casual shoes, and menswear timepieces. You’ll look casual and comfy, but not sloppy. Finish with a handy messenger bag.

4. Try It with a Vest

T-shirt outfit 4: Rolling stones tee, denim vest, skinny jeans, leopard flats, jewelry
T-Shirt, Shoes, Bracelet, Pants, Vest, Earrings

A denim vest is a fun, unexpected way to add a rock and roll feel to an otherwise basic jeans-and-tee look. This look is especially chic with a concert t-shirt, or printed pants! Finish off the outfit with a bold pair of shoes, eye-catching earrings, and a tough-looking bracelet.

5. Pair It with a Maxi Skirt

T-shirt outfit 5: Mint maxi skirt, leopard heart tee, bird ring, gold sparkle flats, red head scarf
Shirt, Skirt, Headscarf, Ring, Shoes

This outfit has a bit of a Carrie Bradshaw feel to it: It’s bold for sure, but with the right amount of confidence, it’s easy to pull off! One way to make good use out of your maxi skirt is to pair it with a t-shirt. Make sure the tee isn’t too busy, and knot it right where the skirt begins for an ultra-chic look. Finish the outfit with a headscarf, classy ring, and ballet flats.

What Do You Think?

How do you dress up your t-shirts? How many do you think you’ve accumulated over the last few years of college? Would you ever pair a t-shirt with a skirt? What other pieces do you have trouble styling? Leave a comment and tell us what you think!

Great outfits. I especially like the second and fifth ones; love the idea of pairing a casual tee with girly skirts!

i like the first and third outfits the best. in the first, i like how the jacket has a beatles-esque feel to it to go with the shirt, and for the third, i always look like a boy when i wear androgynous looks but i LOVE them and they look so comfortable.

My favorite way is actually tucking it in a pair of high-waisted jeans! It acts a a grungy blouse ;)

I love it! Especially with a skirt and a ‘dressed-up’ jacket, a simple T-shirt can look amazing. In fact, this is what I usually do with cheap, simple, plain T-shirts.

I have tons of tee shirts, they’re my favourite thing to wear. I also love skirts, so I’ve paired them with mini, mid and maxi skirts. I’m going to try a slouchy hat with a tee shirt today.

Love the skirt look! Great post, my tee shirts usually don’t see the light of day or I save then for a lazy day, but now I’m going to try and wear them to class. I also have trouble styling my fedora, I got a striped one last year and I’ve only worn it twice :(

So cute, love all the outfits! Might try all of them next week to get use out of my tshirts. I hardly ever wear mine, because I always feel like they aren’t stylish enough, but now I see possiblities!

Great ideas. It’s always hard trying to dress up graphic tees. I just posted on my blog a similar Pretty Little Liars shirt like the one you have in the second outfit, haha.

This came just in time for me! I’ve just bought a few t-shirts from a company a friend recommended http://www.cottonage.com/Graphic-T-Shirts/ since I realized I had a closet full of old, stained t-shirts, nothing really nice to wear for this spring..Your ideas to mix and match t-shirts are so great, thanks for sharing!

All of these ideas are so amazing. Skirts work really well with simple tee-shirts. And jackets dress up any look.

I love the idea of wearing it with a skirt! Although it seems like a somewhat logical thing to try since we were tops and blouses with skirts all the time, it only just occurred to me the other day. I wore my favourite spongebob tee (no shame!) with a white and navy polka dot skirt and paired it with simple black flats and a denim jacket and I loved it!! Definitely wearing this combo more often!

I created an outfit similar to #2 a few weeks ago. I had a top from dELiA*s (it has “John, Paul, George, & Ringo” printed on it) and paired it with my blue high-waisted skirt and ballet flats. :D

I hope there will be more articles like this because it helps me get ideas for the old t-shirts I have piled in my closet. :)

I love the androgynous look the best out of them since I love how casual it looks plus this outfit is unisex so even guys can wear this look but according to the picture, I choose to wear Demi Lovato’s outfit since I love the Ramones and her ripped black jeans.

I love wearing a tee with denim shorts and a blazer. The combo and balance between casual and formal rocks really well. :)
