Welcome to our next stop on the train to High Fashion trends!
Over the past few months we’ve been showing you what the latest high fashion trends are on the runway and with celebrities, and showing you how to get the trends for yourself on a college student budget. (You can find all the previous installments of this series here.)
Last time, we looked at tie-dye, back from the ’60s and ’70s with an elevated feel.
This week, we are evaluating some designs from top name designers who are once again embracing sequins in their pieces. We’ll also see which celebrities are loving the sequins trend and where to get it for yourself.
HIGH FASHION TREND: SEQUINS
Sequins were all over the runways for Fall/Winter 2019.
Some top names that used sequins include: Jenny Packham, Rodarte, Delposo, and Martin Grant.
In Jenny Packham‘s AW19 collection, she incorporated sequins in many of her gowns.
This gown is a gorgeous example of the trend – top to bottom in sequins with a beautiful mix of shades of blue and green. The cape is dreamy, with the sequins giving off the effect of a cascading waterfall.
If you love the romantic look of this take on the sequins trend, you can see the whole collection here.
I love Delpozo‘s interpretation of sequins as they are used as a tool to bring texture, color, and depth to a button-up top.
In this collection, sequins are used as accents and patterns to beautiful designs. Take a look at the full collection here.
Who wouldn’t love to just walk into work rocking this whole ensemble? Talk about a power suit.
I love Martin Grant‘s mix of the magenta blazer and trousers with the bold purple sequin turtleneck. As with most separates, this would be lovely to mix and match into more outfits, as well.
This collection has some really awesome variations of sequined looks — so much inspiration!
Rodarte‘s take on sequins here is a multi-colored, yet dark, two-piece set along with a matching hat. (The balloon sleeves incorporate the puffed sleeve trend, too!)
Rodarte’s collection is all about glitter and shine this season; this look is just one of many examples. You can see the full collection here.
Celebrities in Sequins:
This month, Kim Kardashian-West was seen wearing a 1983 vintage snakeskin sequin dress by Mugler. Although the dress is from the ’80s, the trend is so clearly back in if Kim is rocking it!
At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Miley Cyrus wore a lovely, low-cut, black sequin gown by Saint Laurent. This is a classic take on sequins — nothing says glam like this gown!
Serena Williams was another star to walk the Vanity Fair Oscar After-Party carpet in sequins. Serena wore a Giambattista Valli Haute Couture mermaid gown covered in floral patterned sequins.
How to Buy the Sequins Trend on a Budget:
Affordable Sequins, Option #1:
Product: Sequin Drape Jacket in Rose Gold; $28.50 – ASOS
This open jacket can dress up any look.
Add it to your usual business attire for a work party or drinks with coworkers. On a chilly night out, layer it over your LBD for added bling. Or, layer it over a bodysuit tucked into dark high waisted jeans with heels for a dressy-casual date.
Affordable Sequins, Option #2:
Product: Sequin Mini Skirt in White; $40 – Express
I love the sequin mini skirts Express has right now. Here is a geometrical-patterned sequin mini skirt.
Pair the skirt with a pretty top and white heels like the model for a girls night out. To dress it down, add a cropped black sweater on top and black flat booties on the bottom.
Affordable Sequins, Option #3:
Product: Sequin Knit Sweater in Green; $40 – Nasty Gal
Want something flashy and comfy? This sequin oversized sweater is perfect for the chilly and rainy nights this month.
Tuck the front into a high-waisted pencil skirt and add heeled booties for a dressier look. If you’re going out for coffee with the girls, throw on some jeggings on the bottom with your stylish sneakers.
Affordable Sequins, Option #4:
Product: Sequin Off-The-Shoulder Romper in Blue; $40 – Urban Outfitters
This romper is super cute for summer nights out. You can wear this out dancing with the girls or on a date — just pair with some hot knee-high boots. Alternatively, you can wear some strappy sandals to dress it down.
Do you or would you wear sequins?
