Superhero movies always seem to dominate the box office. In 2016 alone, films like Dawn of Justice, Captain America: Civil War, and X-Men Apocalypse crushed it at theaters. Even more superhero flicks are due to release in the near future, like Doctor Strange and Thor: Ragnarok.

While I LOVE superhero movies (especially ones with Captain America), it can be easy to forget that heroes aren’t the only ones with worthwhile stories to tell. That’s why I’m super excited about a new DC Comics-universe movie hitting theaters this August 5th: Suicide Squad!

Suicide Squad - Official Trailer 1 [HD]

Suicide Squad follows a group of fan-favorite DC Comic supervillains who are recruited to a secret task force to carry out covert missions for the government. They’re officially called “Task Force X,” but adopt the nickname “Suicide Squad” because of the deadly nature of their missions. It’s not every day you see a superhero movie where the heroes are actually the supervillains.

In honor of the movie’s release, I created four Suicide Squad makeup looks for various characters in the film! Keep in mind that you don’t need every product listed to create these looks. Without further ado, let’s meet some Suicide Squad characters!

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn, formerly known as Dr. Harleen Quinzell, was a psychiatrist who worked at Arkham Asylum and treated the The Joker. She became obsessed and fell deeply in love with him. Their manipulative relationship partly triggered her transformation into Harley Quinn.

Harley’s colorful hair is the main inspiration for her makeup look. Channel her signature colors with some shimmery magenta shadow on the eyes and bright turquoise liner underneath, or have turquoise shadow transition across the lids into a magenta color. A thick cat eye, subtle blush, and a glossy red lip are all that’s left to finish off the look. If the eyes are already dramatic enough for you, pair this look with a nude lip instead.

Katana

Katana is an expert martial artist/swordswoman that acts as the bodyguard for another character, Rick Flag. She wields the Soultaker blade, which entraps the souls of her victims. You do not want to get on her bad side.

Katana’s look is all about precision and clean lines. Matte shadows in cream and brown tones will help to define the eye while keeping the look natural. Use some crisp gel eyeliner to make a cat wing, and finish the eyes with a defining mascara. Swipe on some matte bronzer and peach blush for light definition, and pop on either some tinted lip balm or a matte red lip to nod to Katana’s costume.

Enchantress

The Enchantress is an ancient witch who is released by archaeologist June Moone. She subsequently takes possession of the scientist’s body and acts as her alter ego. She’s rumored to be the main villain of the film and the Suicide Squad’s first target.

Enchantress has an aura of power and mystery surrounding her. Channel this same feeling with a smoky eye in metallic or glittery cream, brown, and black shadows. Smoke out black kohl eyeliner on the top lashline for added drama, and top off the eyes with a deep black mascara. Keep the cheeks neutral with a peachy-pink blush, and apply a deep oxblood lipstick or sheer nude balm to finish off the look.

Amanda Waller

Amanda Waller is the intelligence officer responsible for managing the Suicide Squad. Even though she works for the government, she’s isn’t blindly loyal. She’s ambitious and has no problem skirting the rules or getting rid of people who get in the way of her plans.

Amanda’s personality inspires a get-down-to-business, classic makeup look. Apply neutral shadows in shades like cream, taupe, and warm brown over the eye, with the darkest colors falling in the crease and the outer corner. Finish with a lengthening mascara and a creamy liner in a neutral shade. Use liquid or cream blush on the cheeks, a touch of bronzer, and a mauve or berry-toned lipstick to keep everything fresh and clean.

  1. Ah I really wish we could have gotten pictures of the finished look! But the inspiration from all the characters is great.
