You know those days – the ones where you roll out of bed (after hitting the snooze button too many times), stumble into your closet, and have no idea what to wear? Our new series, Easy Outfit Formulas, is here to help! Every other week, I’ll feature two items (which you probably already own) that can be paired into outfits for those days when you need some quick and easy inspiration.

This week, we’re going for two cute cold weather staples: sweater dresses and patterned tights. It’s hard to go wrong with this combo – sweater dresses are simple and comfy, and it’s so easy to jazz them up with a pair of fun patterned tights. Best of all, they’re classics that you can wear for years to come!

Scroll down to see three outfits with this formula:

Mixing Prints

Product Info: Dress – Target, Boots – Tilly’s, Tights – Bebe, Socks – LOFT, Scarf – H&M, Earrings – LOFT

For a fun yet casual ensemble for class, start with a striped sweater dress in your favorite color. Pair it with tights in a subtle pattern, like a polka dot. Then layer it up with a pair of riding boots, cozy boot socks, and a sequin-studded infinity scarf. For an extra touch of sparkle, accessorize with some beaded drop earrings.

Cool Girl on the Block

For an edgier, more urban look, pick a simple black sweater dress and a pair of bold graphic tights. Add a military-style jacket and studded black ankle boots for a tough-girl vibe. Accessorize with a warm (and trendy!) beanie. For an unexpected final touch, paint your nails in a bold and bright color, like this cobalt blue.

Elegant Evening

For a fancier occasion, pick a jewel-toned sweater dress. Pair it with black lace tights and two-toned Mary Jane heels, which have a classy, vintage feel. Accessorize with a black box clutch and locket necklace. Last but not least, don’t forget a dressy cream-colored coat for warmth!

I love sweater dresses with tights. I really love ribbed tights, they have such a classy feel I think than regular black tights. Anyway, I love all of these. I just pinned all of them. Dresses and tights with boots is so easy but it looks cute no matter what occasion if you pick the right dress and tights. Like you mentioned, its easy to just add a clutch and switch to heels from day to night.

The tights are gorgeous and i love the accessories on the last outfit(specially the shoes) and the earrings on the second one, but i am not really feeling the dresses. They do match, just not really my style.

What a coincidence! I’m wearing patterned tights right now. Last year, I went crazy I bought a whole bunch because I’d never seen them before and thought maybe I’d gone a little overboard. Now I realize there is no such thing as too many patterned tights.

Extra tip! If you have a black/white/grey sweater dress, layer a pair of colored tights under your patterned tights. It’s a little warmer for chillier days and still looks extra cute!!

    Love all these outfits!

OMG. I have the Charlotte Russe boots from the first outfit. They look good with any short dress.

    That purple dress rocks too!!!
