When it comes to fashion, winter weather can seem like a real drag. Sure, you get to wear cozy sweaters and cute scarves, but there are also a lot of pieces that often feel like they’re “off-limits.” Case in point: boho peasant dresses, which are often synonymous with warm spring/summer weather outfits.

I am here to challenge that notion, as I firmly believe that you can make these breezy, feminine dresses work in any type of climate, including winter weather!

Don’t believe me? Just check out the three outfits I’ve put together below, all of which involve prairie dresses styled in cold weather-friendly ways!

Peasant Dress Outfit #1

How to Wear Boho Prairie Dresses When It's Cold Out | Outfit #1: floral patterned peasant dress, long oversized plaid coat, wide-brim felt hat, and accessories

For the first look, I styled an outfit that is both trendy and easy to put together.

Begin by donning a cute and feminine floral-print prairie dress. For some contrast, throw on a menswear-inspired coat. Heeled ankle booties add some height to balance out the proportions of the outfit, while a wide-brim hat offers some bohemian flair.

As for jewelry, I chose simple pieces that still make an impact, such as these classic hoop earrings, a chain-link bracelet, and a long crescent necklace.

Complete the ensemble by picking up a timeless chain-strap crossbody bag.

Peasant Dress Outfit #2

I found inspiration for this outfit in 1960s-esque color palettes, as well as natural-looking materials, such as faux fur, wood, and shells.

To copy it for yourself, begin by putting on a retro-inspired prairie dress with a muted color scheme. Then add a faux-fur vest, which can be worn on its own over the dress, or in addition to a jacket or sweater for extra warmth as well.

Indulge in one of the season’s hottest trends – animal prints – with a pair of snakeskin print ankle boots. Encourage your wild side even further with nature-inspired jewelry, like these wooden hoops, a lion ring, and a cowrie shell bracelet.

To finish off the look, add a mini crossbody bag in a chic shade of olive green.

Peasant Dress Outfit #3

For the final look, I created something for those with a more classic sense of style who still want to participate in the prairie dress trend.

To replicate this outfit, begin by putting on a beautiful rust-colored prairie dress with a classy tie-neck detail. Throw on a cozy long cardigan, and cinch it at the waist with this gorgeous knotted belt.

You can’t go wrong with a pair of knee-high boots with whipstitch details, and the same goes for delicate jewelry. Here, I chose these lovely pearl linear drop earrings, as well as a simple and pretty stacking ring set.

If you’re lucky enough to get some sunny weather, put on a pair of cool, rounded sunglasses. These orange acetate ones are sure to flatter a wide range of face shapes and skin tones.

To round out the look, grab a retro fringe bag on your way out the door.
