If you ever find yourself stuck in a style rut, playing with fun new color combinations is a great way to liven up your wardrobe. In this series, we feature unique and unexpected color combinations, then give you stylish outfit ideas so you can try out these color combos yourself. For more color-centric outfit ideas, be sure to check out our previous posts on combining Red + PinkMint + Mustard and Peach + Gray.

This month’s color combo was particularly challenging for me, because — in my eyes — wearing orange and blue means you’re headed to a Florida Gators game. However, all preconceived notions aside, these two shades look amazing together, as blue and orange are complementary (across from each other on the color wheel) hues. Pairing a punchy orange with a cool blue shade creates a perfectly balanced and stylish look.

Need some outfit ideas before you try out this color combination? Scroll on down to check out four outfits featuring orange and blue:

Outfit #1: Backyard Barbecue

For an easygoing, yet stylish look that incorporates both orange and blue, look no further than the outfit below. Pair a pleated orange blouse with some cute printed navy shorts. Slip-on espadrille flats continue the casual vibe, while a slouchy brown tote adds a boho touch. Accessorize with a cool claw-shaped necklace and you’ll have a warm weather-appropriate outfit that’s perfect for a casual get-together with friends or family.

Outfit #2: Comfy & Cute

This next look swaps the colors of the previous outfit, as it features a blue top and an orange bottom. Start by pairing a sleeveless chambray top with an A-line orange skirt, then add some fun leopard oxfords for a trendy vibe. A printed dark blue tote bag is large enough to hold all your essentials, while a delicate headband adds a sweet and girly touch. For the finishing touch, add an adorable silver ring. This outfit would work well as a dressy daytime look.

Outfit #3: Beach Bum

Swimsuit season is in full swing, so the next time you hit the water, why not try combining orange and blue? Start with a punchy tangerine one-piece swimsuit, then add a blue and orange graphic tank top, which works as a cover-up. Dark blue rubber flip flops and a roomy backpack are perfect for the beach, while round orange sunglasses add the finishing touch.

Outfit #4: Summer Sundress

For our final look, I decided to play up this color combination using a summer essential — the sundress. Take a simple and sweet blue sundress and add a pair of braided white sandals. Accessorize with a tie-dyed orange clutch and geometric earrings for a stylish look. Finish the ensemble with a rhinestone-embellished watch and an orange friendship bracelet.

  4. These outfits are so cute. I do have a little orange problem since it’s my alma mater’s in-state rival’s color and blue (royal) is ours, but it does look really nice together. Might be a talking point at the next family get together. lol
