Wish list suggestions - what to put on your holiday wish list

There are tons of articles out there about the perfect gifts to give to each family member or friend, and how to shop for them. But what about wish list suggestions for your own holiday list?

I don’t know about you, but when my family asks me what I want for Christmas, I freeze up. All year round I can always think of things to buy myself, but once it gets down to gift giving season, I always forget.

Does this happen to you, too? If so, fear not!

Below, I’ve compiled a list of wish list suggestions — gifts to ask for or take inspiration from, no matter what holiday you celebrate. There are cheaper and more expensive options mixed throughout, so there’s something for everyone. Happy wishlist-ing!

Film Camera

If you’re tired of taking photos on your phone or a digital camera, a film camera can be a great alternative that allows you to further explore photography.

Film cameras can be complicated and expensive, so if you’re just starting out, I’d recommend a disposable or less sophisticated camera:

This Holga camera, available on Amazon, is a cheap but good quality beginner film camera.

The Holga 120N will give you those old school Instagram filter-style photos, complete with light leaks and vignettes. If you know what you’re buying, this is a really cool camera that’s well worth its $35 price tag.

(Here’s a Flickr group filled with photos taken with a Holga 120N, for an idea of what to expect.)

If you’re looking for something a bit more high end or you want the experience of manually operating the settings, this Canon camera, also on Amazon, is a great alternative.

Film cameras are a fun way to explore photography, or just take cool photos of your friends.

LED Lights

A cute way to jazz up your dorm room or your room at home can be an LED strip light! They come in color changing strips, so no matter what, your lights will always match your decor.

This is also a less expensive gift you can get from Walmart if your family is looking to shop more affordably!

Tupperware

You might be surprised to see this on our list of wish list suggestions, but it’s here for a reason.

Tupperware is a less flashy but still a very important essential for college. If you haven’t already invested in a good tupperware set, winter break is a great time to do so.

Ace Hardware is having a sale for this 28 piece set. It’s a great size – not too much or too few – and you can store them compactly in your room by stacking them when they’re empty.

Eyeshadow

Makeup is always a holiday gift essential, but there’s not a lot of excuses year round to buy a big set or a bunch of makeup at once.

Colourpop has been coming out with come gorgeous, boldly colored palettes all year. This set combines every color of the rainbow so you’ll never need another palette!

Keurig

Keurigs are another college dorm room essential, and if you don’t already have one, the holidays are a great time to get one for your room.

This Keurig K-Compact is a small and efficient option in the line of Keurigs. It won’t take up much room on your desk, and it’s a lot cheaper than other models as well.

Stationery Set

Part of being an adult is writing the occasional “thank-you” note or sending cards to the people you care about. So this wish list suggestion will help you remember to adult.

Every college girl needs her own stationery set on hand — even if you don’t use your stationery a lot, you’ll be glad you have it when it’s time to write that thank you note!

I love this set from Paper Source – it’s artsy and minimalist at the very same time. Professional and cute stationery cards are an easy gift and a great way to thank those who have given you holiday gifts.

Necklace

Jewelry is another holiday gift staple. It’s fairly easy to pick out if it’s someone that doesn’t know you that well, yet it’s personal enough to let you know they’re thinking of you.

A personalized necklace, like this one from Brook & York, is a gift that every independent college girl needs to have. It’s a beautiful accessory and shows the world who you are!

Skincare Set

If you haven’t hopped on the skincare bandwagon yet, the holidays are the perfect time to start. Plus, you can get ahead on a New Year’s Resolution!

This is one of my favorite wish list suggestions because who doesn’t want better skin?

This Clinique skincare set is great for skincare beginners – it has a little bit of everything and isn’t harsh on your kin.

If you’re looking to get behind some of the latest skincare trends, Mario Badescu has been all the hype lately. Urban Outfitters has this set which gives a little bit of each product for you to try out.

This BioClarity set is an amazing vegan and cruelty-free skincare set that comes in both a small and a large size if you’re digging the product. It’s a great way to care about both yourself and the environment!
