You guys asked for it, so here it is! This week’s Video Game Fashion is all about Street Fighter

For those who aren’t familiar with Street Fighter, it’s a fighting video game franchise developed by Capcom. Gameplay centers around a martial artist named Ryu who competes in tournaments across the world. First released in 1987, the franchise debuted in arcades and later moved to consoles.

The popularity of the original Street Fighter led to numerous sequels and spin-offs that are still beloved today. There have even a few Street Fighter films and TV shows! The latest and greatest addition to the franchise, Street Fighter V, was released this past February on PlayStation 4.

So, let’s get right to it! Here are some outfits inspired by Street Fighter:

Ryu is the main protagonist of Street Fighter. He’s highly focused on his training in order to become the strongest he can be. However, Ryu’s martial arts powers tend to attract those who would like to use them for evil.

In order to emulate Ryu’s effortless, battle-ready style, throw on a long, white, flowing satin skirt with a snug red sweater on top. Next, accent your look with a ribbon headband to mimic Ryu’s in a subtle way. Finish with a matching red ring, red lip, and red ankle booties. You’re ready to rumble!

Chun-Li

Chun-Li is the first female fighter in the series, first seen in Street Fighter 2. Chun-Li is an expert martial artist and Interpol officer seeking revenge for the death of her father.

Chun-Li’s fun and feisty style can be copied by throwing on a short, sweet, embroidered mini dress with a shiny gold-plate choker. Add pearl earrings and a black and gold bracelet cuff for sparkle. A studded clutch is reminiscent of her spiky bracelets. Finish with chunky white platform sandals — you’ll be just as large, in charge, and in style as Chun-Li is.

Akuma

Akuma made his debut in Street Fighter 2: Turbo as a secret character and hidden boss. He’s mysterious and quite powerful which makes him a favorite among players.

When I envision Akuma’s style in real life, I think of a look that’s simple, chic, and dark. To go along with Akuma’s mysterious demeanor, I picked out a black-on-black ensemble with a black frilly, flowing top and fluid black trousers.  To break up the black-on-black color palette, I added navy round toe pumps, a nude lip paint and a bright red cross body to embody Akuma’s bright red hair. I finished the look with a rope bracelet reminiscent of his wraps.
