Summer nail polishes

June marks the official start of summer, which means it’s time to hit the beach, go shopping, hang out with friends, and — of course– start painting your nails with bright, fun colors!

I shared some of my favorite spring nail polishes back in March, and now it’s time to share some of my favorite nail polishes for summer. Scroll down to check out my six fave picks for the season:

1. Essie “Boom Boom Room”

Essie boom boom room

This color is such a pretty, milky pink – it looks absolutely stunning on any skin tone. I love this polish because it’s a couple notches down from an in-your-face neon pink, but still adds an amazingly bright pop of color to your nails! Essie’s nail polishes are some of my faves because of the small brush – it makes painting your nails a breeze.

2. China Glaze “Turned Up Turquoise”

This color is so fun. I love rocking this neon turquoise during the summertime because the color is b-o-l-d. This polish looks especially fab at the pool or beach, but it looks beautiful in and out of the water! The only downside is that this polish is a little sheer, so make sure you apply at least two coats.

3. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in “White On”

Want an easy way to look a lot more tan than you actually are during the summer? Wear white nail polish! This bright white shade makes any skin tone look about 10x more bronzed – personally, I use this trick all the time. This polish from Sally Hansen is the most opaque white polish I’ve tried, and for under $3, the price seriously can’t be beat.

4. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear in “Coral Reef”

I’ll admit it: I’m obsessed with the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear line of colors – they boast such great quality for such a small amount of money. That’s why I had to include another shade from this line. I love bright coral for the summertime (blush, lips, eyes, and nails), and “Coral Reef” is the best coral polish I’ve ever tried. I highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a neon coral fix.

5. Revlon Nail Enamel in “Girly”

Revlon girly

Let me just say that any sparkly nail polish is perfect for the summer, because sparkles mixed with sunlight creates an even more sparkly polish. It’s amazing. I especially love this color from Revlon –  it’s a creme pink-based polish with pink, purple, and blue sparkles. It reminds me of cotton candy! Plus, I love how opaque this color is – you don’t need many coats to get the full effect.

6. Butter London in “Slapper”

Butter London Slapper

I absolutely love Butter London’s nail polishes, but unfortunately, they are on the pricey side at $15 a pop. That’s why I take advantage of sales whenever I can – the quality is definitely unbelievable, so if you can get Butter at a discount, do it!

This polish in particular is amazing for summer – it’s so bright and creamy and reminds me of the ocean waves or a beautiful, clear blue sky. I love blue polishes in general, but during the summertime I think they just look incredible paired with the (hopefully) amazing weather.

Your Thoughts?

  1. I love your picks! I do have a few similar shades that I wear during the summer as well. I love bright beachy shades for the summer.
My faves for summer are – Essie Turquoise &Caicos, Essie Tart Deco (pretty coral color), Sally Hansen Pacific Blue and Color Club’s Age of Aquarius which is very similar to the China Glaze teal color you posted.

  2. I LOVE Butter polish but my wallet doesn’t haha, I’ve been getting L’Oreal Color Riche ones instead. They go on so nice and come in such pretty colors!

  3. I already love the Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear, so I immediately went out and purchased Coral Reef. I LOVE this color! It’s my new summer staple! I’m actually going back to Wal-Mart today to get another bottle and some more colors. Great recommendation and great article!

  4. I love the last turquoise one! I really like the other colors too, but somehow I don’t wear a nail polish unless it’s plain–not shimmery, not glittery, nada. I have no idea why, but I do know I wish that pretty Turned up Turquoise was in a less shimmery shade!

  6. I can attest to the quality of Butter London as well! I have Slapper too, and it’s such a gorgeous color. It goes on smoothly and evenly. I recommend it.

I’m really liking Cool Lime by Pop Beauty. It’s a beautiful green color and is kind of between pastel and neon. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s goopy, which is annoying for the price I paid ($10), but I think it’s worth it.

  7. Turned Up Turquoise is one of my new favorites as well! I bought it a few weeks ago and have gotten a ton of compliments already. Coral Reef has been one of my summer go to colors for the last couple summers too!

  8. Turned Up Turquoise is amazing, but I already have similar colors 🙁
I’ve been wanting to get Coral Reef for a while now; glad to hear that you like it, Emma! I need a new white for nail art, so maybe I’ll try the Sally Hansen one. I own a few other colors in the Xtreme Wear line, and I love them, too!
For summer in general, I love neon pink polish; I use one by Sinful Colors, and it is super bright but really pretty.

    • If the Sally Hansen one doesn’t work out too well for you, definitely try Wet ‘n’ Wild’s!

  9. I just recently bought the China Glaze one. I’m in LOVE with it! I usually buy OPI colors, and dark ones at that, but China Glaze has been catching my eye lately.
The Butter London picture looks nothing like the actual color….It’s a deeper and closer to a green turquoise.

  10. It could be just the ones I tried, but I tried Butter London polishes at a store and thought the quality was awful. They were really streaky upon application and not very smooth to the touch 🙁 maybe that color is better though

  11. I’m really feeling Turned Up Turquoise this season as well.

I keep trying to resist Coral Reef because I have some that are similar, but then I keep seeing people recommending it!

  12. Love your picks! I’m a big fan of China Doll nail polish. I’m surprised you didn’t mention Clinique’s Nail Lacquers. Their colors look like Skittles! And they dry fast and you don’t have to add a million coats to get a nice pop!

They are the same price as the Butter ($15.00), but I think they are well work it. Want to find out more about Clinique’s Nail Lacquers…
