If you ever find yourself stuck in a style rut, playing with fun new color combinations is a great way to liven up your wardrobe. In this series, we feature unique and unexpected color combinations, then give you stylish outfit ideas so you can try out these color combos yourself. For more color-centric outfit ideas, be sure to check out our previous posts in this series.

If you keep up with color trends, you’ll know that Pantone recently named Radiant Orchid 2014’s Color of the Year. Described as “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones,” we think Radiant Orchid looks especially chic when paired with sophisticated navy. The neutral hue balances out the warm undertones found in this shade of purple and in turn, orchid really pops against navy.

Need some outfit ideas before you rock this color combo? Simply scroll on down to check out four stylish outfits featuring navy and orchid:

Outfit #1: Back to Basics

A little hesitant to try out this bold hue? Start by incorporating orchid into your accessories, as shown in the outfit below. Pair a navy striped long sleeve tee with your fave pair of jeans, then wrap an orchid-colored scarf around your neck. A navy beanie adds extra warmth, while taupe combat boots ground the ensemble. Accessorize with these unique chain-wrapped stud earrings to finish up this look.

Outfit #2: On-Campus Chic

Another fab way to rock Pantone’s Color of the Year is with outerwear, like this stylish yet practical orchid peacoat. A navy skater skirt balances out the bright orchid, while a diamond print sweater adds interest. To continue the wintery vibe, add a pair of opaque tights and some black riding boots. Complete this getup by slipping on a cute heart-shaped locket.

Outfit #3: Comfy Cute

This next outfit would be an adorable look to rock once the weather warms up. These dotted orchid jeans pair perfectly with a navy blouse to create a laid-back yet on-trend look. Navy oxfords continue the casual vibe, while a tan cross-body bag adds a practical touch. Accessorize with these geometric drop earrings, then go monochromatic by painting your nails various shades of purple.

Outfit #4: Polished Glam

An orchid dress is a surefire way to get noticed on a night out! We paired this ruffled orchid frock with polka dot tights and wedge ankle boots for a fun and fashion-forward look. This vintage-inspired ring glams things up, while a navy funnel-neck coat will keep you warm throughout the evening.
