If you attend college, you probably hear people preaching about self-care on a daily basis. It’s true, self-care is an important thing to do. It can help you to relax during your busy schedule and can also help you to develop more self-confidence.

Although there is no incorrect way to practice self-care, there are a few golden rules that you should follow. Self-care doesn’t have to be a difficult or time-consuming process if you follow these self-care dos and don’ts.

Don’t over self-care.

Yes, there is such a thing as too much self-care. Remember that life is all about balance. In order to feel truly fulfilled, you have to go through some instances of stress. Don’t use self-care as an excuse to get out of difficult situations or avoid confrontation.

Don’t forget the basics.

With all the fancy face masks and massage techniques out there, you may feel like you need to be extreme when practicing self-care. However, sometimes it can be just as easy as drinking water, getting enough sleep, and eating a well-balanced meal.

Although these seem like basic techniques, they really can affect the way that you feel.

Don’t spend outrageous amounts of money.

It seems like every day you see advertisements for crazy facials or sweat lodges like the one that Selena Gomez goes to. However, there’s no need to spend crazy amounts of money when you can recreate some of these self-care practices at home.

Look up homemade facials or give yourself a DIY pedicure. Just because celebrities are dropping cash on the latest self-care trends doesn’t mean that you can’t recreate them for little to no money.

Do set aside time for self-care.

Self-care is an important part your routine. It’s when you can take time out of your day to focus on yourself. Sometimes it can feel like there is simply no time to do this, but it’s essential that you do.

Take some time out of your day, whether it’s five minutes, ten minutes, or even a full hour, to focus on making sure that you are okay.

Do practice it weekly.

Self-care isn’t something that you can just do once and forget about. It’s something that needs to happen weekly in order to ensure that you are living a stress-free life.

Create some type of routine in your schedule, so that every Sunday night you take a bath or maybe Tuesday mornings you do yoga. Incorporate self-care into your life and remember that it’s not a chore.

Do know yourself.

It’s important to know what makes you feel rejuvenated. For some it may be taking ten minutes to write in a bullet journal, others may want to kick back and watch TV, or maybe some feel best when they hang out with a group of friends.

Also, remember that it may vary week to week. Sometimes you may need time alone, while other times you may want to surround yourself with others. Knowing what makes you feel the best will help you to practice self-care correctly.

What helps you to feel rejuvenated throughout the week?

I can’t say enough about the importance of self-care. It’s important to set some time aside each week to focus on yourself. For me, I like to read a book that I’ve been dying to start while relaxing with a face mask.

No matter what form of self-care you like, make sure that it’s something that makes you feel like you can conquer the world.

Is there some form of self-care that you practice? Have you noticed any benefits from setting up a self-care routine? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
