Rebecca Minkoff Spring Summer 2011

Next up in our Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 coverage is Rebecca Minkoff.

While Rebecca has long been known for her handbags and apparel, she debuted her very first line of shoes this season in a presentation at Lincoln Center featuring numerous models including blogger Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast (pictured above left). The line debuted to a room packed with spectators, including celebs like Michelle Trachtenberg of Gossip Girl and Shenae Grimes of 90210.

CF Review:

Rebecca Minkoff’s Spring 2011 collection illustrated why every it-girl covets her pieces: She gets the 18-24 year old demographic and knows what we want to wear. From a perfectly boho-chic off-the-shoulder dress with ruffles to slouchy, “I-just-threw-this-on” separates, her line absolutely nails the stylish-but-never-try-hard downtown girl aesthetic.

While Rebecca’s forte is handbags – which included her signature studs, chains, and rocker-chic embellishments, strewn across quilted leather cross-bodys, structured messenger bags, and envelope clutches, her new line of shoes was a surprising success. Platform pumps embellished with metallic studs, perfect leopard ankle booties with a slight heel, and studded leather clogs practically stole the show – everyone was clamoring to get a photo of them.

Overall, Rebecca’s Spring/Summer 2011 line echoed the old sentiment, “If it ain’t broke…” – this is one designer who knows her audience and what they want to buy. While perhaps the collection wasn’t groundbreaking, in this case, that was just fine with us. If this season’s collection was any indication, we expect to see Rebecca’s line continue to rule the land of it-girls for many seasons to come.

Fashion Cliff-Notes:

Overall Themes:

  • Effortless, just-threw-it-on chic
  • Tough girl edge
  • Loose, flowing pieces with emphasis on the waist

Key Trends:

  • Chain embellishments
  • Loose, tailored shorts
  • Studded bags and shoes
  • Nude tones, black, and white
  • Pops of red
  • Animal print accessories

Absolutely LOVE the leopard booties. Rebecca Minkoff bags are always so cute i suppose it was kind of a given her shoes would fit the same standard.

Love the outfits, a little throwback to the 1960′s. But one thing… would have liked if the models didn’t look like they were strung out on heroin… They need to be perky and look alive….

The shoes seem rather cliche and clunky. The nude palette is pretty, though, but I have to say, I’m with Kelsey about the models.

I’m not in love with the shoes, but I do LOVE the outfits. Everything pulled together and just looks great. As for the models – I think it’s suppose to say I woke up, my hair and makeup is messy – but I threw this on and I still look great.

I really like the neutral colors of her collection. Idk why but I couldn’t help but notice that some of those models look sickly skinny!
