Cargo pants are no longer a style reserved for baggy, unfitted jeans. As we reported back in May, skinny cargos are one of the season’s hottest trends, and they aren’t going anywhere for Fall 2010.

Balmain started this trend when they popularized this look on the runways. Shortly after, J Brand began to mass produce the Houlihan style, sending the look into a full-blown phenomenon. If you want to get in on this trend for fall 2010, there are many savvy options available in stores right now:

Free People Cargo Skinny Pant

Product Information: Free People, Urban Outfitters

Urban OutfittersCargo Skinny Pant

One of the best things about skinny cargo pants is that they are easily incorporated into your existing wardrobe. They work with baggy or tight tops, chunky shoes, flats, jackets, and a variety of sweaters. The cargo skinny also looks fabulous and flattering on virtually any body type – it’s all about finding the right fit and style to work with your shape.

So… would you wear skinny cargos?

The whole point of this post is to get your opinions… so let us know what you think of this trend by leaving a comment! How do you feel about the return of the cargo pant? How would you wear this trend? Leave a comment and let me know all the details.

I really love this trend. It incorporates lots of my favorite style elements: natural colors, versatility, menswear inspired, and edginess, just to name a few.

They are SO cute, but I’m not sure that it would flatter girls with wide hips; I think the pockets on the sides would call attention to the wider hipped girls out there. However, I would definitely like to try. They are SO cute. Definitely a fan 🙂

I’m still not a huge fan of skinny jeans in general. I own two pairs, but I only ever wear them when I tuck them inside boots. I am short and have a large chest, so I feel that skinny jeans just make me look even more top heavy, kind of like an ice cream cone. I love cargo, but I think I will skip the skinny until I can find a pair that convinces me to actually like the trend. As of now, however, I still only find this look appealing on super thin girls (which I am not).

I LOVE skinny cargos! I was skeptical at first but then I found the perfect pair by Elle for Kohls. CF has talked about skinny cargos a ton lately but I still havent seen any outfits with them. A post about how to wear skinny cargos in different settings (class, date night, out with the girls) would be fantastic 😀

I LOVE this new trend! I’ve been wanting an alternative for jeans for such a long time now and the skinny cargos are perfect! 🙂 I’m thinknig of getting a pair in dark gray but I’m not too sure what colors to pair it with besides black, white, and pink. You should do an article that shows some outfits ideas with the skinny cargos in all different colors! 🙂

Um… yeah, no. I’m in the same boat as Rin – skinny pants just aren’t that flattering on me to begin with, and my hips are on the wide side, so sticking protruding pockets on them just adds emphasis to an area I try my hardest to downplay. Unless I try on a pair that miraculously is flattering, I don’t think I’ll be buying a pair anytime soon.

I love cargo pants, since they’re more lightweight than jeans and therefore nicer to wear in hot weather (plus I can put my phone in a more voluminous pocket on my knee and avoid the huge lump it makes on my hip). I can’t wear skinnies, but I do like bootcut!

    But I haven’t worn them yet…
Could you guys do a post on different ways to wear skinny cargos?

I love the idea, but with my figure, I’d need to find a pair with pocket placement that doesn’t accentuate the hips/thighs.

Nice, as long as the pockets hit the right spots. Most cargo pants are soooooo baggy that I only own one pair for practicality’s sake. These look prefect.

For those who are worried about the hip pockets: cut the pocket our and sew the pocket shut. A tailor can do it quickly and easily. I do that with a lot of pants. It’ll still look like a pocket but won’t add bulk.

Yesss! I love this trend. I was a little skeptical at first but now I’m a fan. I’m 5’8 and a size 9/10 and I didn’t notice too much bulk added from the pockets.

I am still on the fence. I very much like looking at them on other people, and I am quite ready for an alternative to denim that retains the fabulous skinny cut, but I feel that I somehow cannot bring my Southern, girly self to wear cargoes. Perhaps it’s because I wore them as a tween, and now they seem somehow childish to me as well as boyish. I am thinking I definitely need to purchase a pair of skinny chinos in olive green, though, and if I really like those perhaps I’ll push the envelope and try the pockets!

I would totally rock skinny cargo pants, with a off-the-shoulder top and a fadora, definitely look hot.

I am also very skeptical of skinny trends, and here’s why: I have broad shoulders, a large chest, a small waist and wide hips. Sometimes skinny styles make me look freaky instead of sexy. To counter this problem I always choose a not to low rise. My favorite skinny pants are Banana Republic Martin fits. For you girls out there who are talking about not being able to wear skinny trends, I highly suggest you invest in a pair of BR Martin skinny’s. They are the most flattering pants I have ever put on. I have been eyeing the JBrand skinny cargos at Piperlime, but I am unsure if it will make my hips look huge. Has anyone out there tried these out? If I get them (in most likely olive/dark green like VB), I will wear them with either a well tailored shirt, or a nice flowy top. A military style jacket with good details will also help to narrow the shoulders. Also with skinny’s for us girls with wide shoulders & hips, higher heels do the trick to balance out the frame. 4″ heels put me at 6’0 tall which is the perfect height for my body frame. Invest in a good pair though because I am almost 30 now, and my poor choices in footwear in my early days have really began taking the toll on my leg health (Chin splints!) I recommend Cole Haan because of the NIke Air integrated technology. They are a lifesaver.
