Would You Wear… a Backwards Necklace?

We’ll admit it: though caught off-guard, we were pleased about Jennifer Lawrence’s accessory choice at the Oscars. We were also surprised than Anne Hathaway opted for a similar look at the same event! However, after doing some research, we realized that the backwards necklace trend has been struggling to surface for years and is now having its moment in the spotlight.

Back in 2007, Nicole Kidman donned the look in a Coco Chanel ad. Kate Hudson (pictured above) also memorably rocked back jewelry on the red carpet years ago.  With summer rapidly approaching, we predict that backless dresses will be as commonplace as sandals. We would love to see pretty back jewelry on the average college girl and not just the red carpet!

Here’s how we’d wear it…

When rocking this look, opt for something with an open back, such as this maxi dress from Urban Outfitters. That way, nothing else will complete with the long silver pendant necklace. For the same reason, remember to keep your hair up and away from your neck if it’s long — try a high pony tail or bun à la Jessica Biel in the above photo.

Since this accessory trend makes a statement, keep the rest of the jewelry simple: some stud earrings or delicate rings are all you need. Lastly, add a pair of casual sandals to finish off this boho-chic weekend look.

I love the backless dress look, but I’m not sure about the necklace. If it was like a string of jewels from the dress then yes, but otherwise no.
