Last Sunday marked the 62nd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, where the best television programs are recognized for their outstanding work. As with other award shows, the stars walked the red carpet to show off their superb fashion sense and provide inspiration for the fashion savvy.
Since floor-length gowns aren’t usually part of the average college girl’s wardrobe, I want to show you how to recreate a similar look that will fit your style and your budget. So here are three of my favorite looks from the 2010 Emmys, and tips on how to recreate each one for a red carpet-worthy look:
Heather Morris: Glitz & Glam
In her role as Brittany on Glee, Heather Morris is rarely seen outside her Cheerios uniform. However, for the Emmys, Heather stood out from the crowd in a glamorous floor-length sequined gown and demure accessories. She also channeled Old Hollywood beauty with gorgeous full waves and a bold red lip.

To recreate Heather’s look, I chose a similar sequined dress, that will definitely make a statement. Since the dress has so much sparkle, accessorize with delicate earrings and a waist-defining belt. Simple black pumps and a matching clutch streamline the look, while a luscious red lipstick will create that Old Hollywood vibe.
Anna Paquin: Elegant Embellishments
Anna Paquin rocked this Alexander McQueen gown on the red carpet. I love the contrast between the tough-girl embellishments and the elegant fabric. In addition, it’s a refreshing departure from the outfits Anna wears as Sookie Stackhouse on True Blood.

For an Anna-inspired look, I found a dress with a similar style of beading, but in a shape that could easily be work or party-appropriate. To create a red carpet look, accessorize with plenty of detailed bangles and a matching cuff, plus some platform pumps for added height. If you want to emulate Anna’s winged eyeliner, be sure to use a liquid liner for precision.
Christina Hendricks: Feathered Fancy
Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks shook up the red carpet with this “love it or hate it” dress. While I know not everyone was a fan of this look, to me, Christina can do no wrong in the fashion department, and she looked exceptionally stunning in this feather-adorned Zac Posen gown. It hugged her curves perfectly and made a statement that was both elegant and whimsical.

For the final look, I wanted to take a not-so-literal approach. So instead of a purple frock, I chose a dress with feathered details like Christina’s, except this time in an autumn-appropriate shade. A fun clutch and vintage-inspired ring create an eclectic look, and simple gray heels won’t take any attention away from the rest of the outfit. To recreate Christina’s soft waves, use a hair serum like the one below to smooth and sculpt hair.
What do you think?
