Valentino's studded patent kitten heels have been a must-have item for the fashion elite ever since they first appeared on the Fall 2010 runway. These chic shoes combine the pointed toe of a classic pump, the wearable design of a kitten heel, and the edgy straps and studs of gladiator sandals. These heels are the perfect addition to dresses in the summer, but also look just as good with tights in the winter.

The Valentino heels were spotted all over at Spring 2011 fashion week, adorning the feet of it-girls and tastemakers alike. Fashion icon Alexa Chung wore them with vintage-inspired frocks, and editors Anna Dello Russo and Giovanna Battaglia rocked them with neutral-toned ensembles.

Or... DIY it!

DIY Valentino Kitten Heels

Materials: Heels- Asos, Pyramid Studs- Kit Kraft, Black Ribbon- Michaels.

If you can't find a pair of shoes that looks similar enough to Valentino's heels, or aren't feeling the "looks for less" above, you can always make a pair yourself!

Start out with a neutral pair of kitten heels, some studs, ribbon, suede, or leather strips, and some craft glue. If you're using ribbon, try gluing it along the inside edge of the heel and attach the studs on top for an edgy trim. You can even add ribbon that ties at the ankles like the straps of the Valentino shoes.

If you have strips of leather (they can be found at craft stores, or you can just cut up an old leather garment) you can attach studs onto them and place them on the shoes or create straps. If you are making ankle straps like the Valentino heels, you might want to sew the straps together first. Then, after just a few minutes, you'll have a pair of chic new shoes for less!

What do you think?

Do you think Valentino's heels are a must-have item or unworthy of the hype? Would you wear kitten heels? What other high-end items do you wish you could own for yourself? Let me know with a comment!
