Continuing our Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2011 coverage, today our focus is the Monique Lhuillier S/S 2011 RTW runway show.
Known for her ultra-feminine aesthetic, Monique presented her collection to a packed house on Monday at Lincoln Center. Her star-studded front row included everyone from reality stars like Olivia Palermo of The City and Brad Goreski from The Rachel Zoe Project to young Hollywood starlets like Alexis Bledel and Emma Roberts.

CF Runway Review:
When you attend a Monique Lhuillier Spring fashion show, you know what to expect. As a designer known for her romantic, feminine pieces, Monique is an expert in all things pretty and spring-y. So going into her S/S 2011 show, we were anticipating a slew of dresses incorporating florals, light colors, and airy draping, all of which we were pleasantly un-surprised to see.
The inspiration for this season's collection was the Garden of Eden, and the 40 looks embodied both literal (a snakeskin-printed dress) and figurative (pops of candy apple red) plays on the theme. Lacy white a-line cocktail dresses and pastel pink floral gowns gave off an innocent vibe, while red apple dresses with keyhole necklines and gold serpent sandals (by Bruno Fisoni) signified temptation.
As the collection progressed, pretty daytime looks transformed into red carpet-worthy gowns practically screaming for their closeups. (We spied Brad from the Rachel Zoe Project snapping photos of more than a few of them.) Noteworthy pieces included cherry blossom-printed organza ball gowns and a corset-topped frock with a bright red organza petal skirt. Finally, every head in the house turned for a sparkle-embroidered 3/4 sleeve gown with an illusion neckline that made the model look like she was wrapped in stardust.
As Monique explained in her program, she created this season's garments in "a state of Euphoria!!", and by the end of the show, we were right there with her. Her dreamlike collection transported us into a lush fantasy land, one we hope to revisit again and again through her pieces this Spring.
