JCPenney and Joe Fresh to End Partnership

The department store and Canadian retailer will part ways in 2016.
Publish date:

Two years ago, department store JCPenney teamed up with Joe Fresh to create in-store shops, and now WWD is reporting that the two retailers have decided to part ways.

Mario Grauso, president of Joe Fresh, gave the following statement:

“By mutual agreement, Joe Fresh and JCPenney have determined not to renew our existing distribution agreement that expires on Jan. 30, 2016. This decision is driven by changes to our respective growth strategies."

Back in 2013, Joe Fresh shops for men, women, and children originally opened in 683 JCPenney stores. Now, only 200 locations sell Joe Fresh, and the children's collection was also phased out.

A retail analyst spoke to WWD about why the JCP/Joe Fresh partnership is ending:

“Joe Fresh wasn't what the customer at JCPenney wanted. It’s the right decision to pull it out. They can make more room for something else.”
