Yes, that’s right: 2009 (and the ’00s decade) is coming to a close. I don’t know about you, but this year went by FAST for me! I can hardly believe it’s already time to make new resolutions. In honor of the end of ’09, we’ve compiled this week’s Hautelinks list with the year in mind – many of these are New Year’s related (lists, countdowns, etc.). The New York Times did an interesting article on bloggers and the role blogs now have in the fashion industry:
As a relatively new phenomenon in the crowded arena of journalists whose specialty it is to report the news of the catwalks, fashion bloggers have ascended from the nosebleed seats to the front row with such alacrity that a long-held social code among editors, one that prizes position and experience above outward displays of ambition or enjoyment, has practically been obliterated.

Do you have a New Year’s resolution to get in shape? Might want to read this. According to new brain science, the key to getting skinny may be “all in your head”.
The main reason why resolutions so often fail is that the lifestyle habits that brought you to your current level of pudginess have carved neural pathways in your brain that can’t be changed by sheer willpower. Instead of looking at your body’s behavior as something bad that needs banishing, realize that it might actually be telling you something: that you’re depressed, bored with your job or relationship, or perhaps trapped in the past. It could be your fitness failings are actually symptoms, and you’ve made your poor squishy thighs the undeserving scapegoat for your general unhappiness.

Hope you all have an amazing (and safe) New Year’s Eve! While 2009 was pretty great, I’m betting that 2010 (and the decade ahead) will be even more incredible. Happy NYE and we’ll talk to you again in 2010!
