Fashion Recap: 2013 Academy Awards Red Carpet

Publish date:

It's been a fun and stylish awardsshowseason, but now, the time has come to wrap up our fashion recaps with a look at last night's 2013 Academy Awards red carpet. Let's get to it: Read on to check out our favorite (and least favorite) looks from the 2013 Oscars.

Top 5 Best-Dressed

Here are my picks for best dressed at this year’s Academy Awards, in no particular order:

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence stunned last night in this pale pink Dior couture gown. The dress featured a fitted bodice and a dramatic and voluminous skirt (which may have caused J. Law to trip up the stairs while accepting her award - which she, of course, handled with grace!). Jennifer also got creative, accessories-wise, by draping a long Chopard necklace down her back -- love it!

Amanda Seyfried in Custom Alexander McQueen

Amanda Seyfried has consistently been a fashion favorite this awards season, and she didn't disappoint yesterday in custom Alexander McQueen. The luxe lilac gown was embroidered with silver dragonflies, which Amanda complemented with a smokey purple eye.

If we had one gripe, we do wish that this halter-neck gown had been fitted a bit better - the dress gaped around the neck when Amanda gave interviews. That said, this dress still photographed beautifully - which is the point, right? What did you think of her overall look?

Jessica Chastain in Custom Armani Privé

Zero Dark Thirty's Jessica Chastain was radiant on the Oscar red carpet in custom-made Armani Privé. Not only did this copper-hued gown work well with Jessica's coloring, but the Swarovski crystal-embellished overlay made the dress look positively molten. Vintage Harry Winston jewels and side-swept waves added the finishing touches to this Old Hollywood-inspired look.

Charlize Theron in Dior Haute Couture

A statuesque Charlize Theron was the epitome of glam last night in a peplum Dior. Charlize kept things subtle in the hair and makeup departments, rocking a cropped pixie cut and neutral lip, which created a fab contrast against the embellished couture gown.

Naomi Watts in Armani Privé

Naomi Watts looked head-to-toe amazing at the Academy Awards in a sequin-covered dress by Armani. The body-skimming gown featured a trendy, sculptural cut-out neckline, which Naomi paired with a soft updo and delicate diamond earrings.

Other Notable Ensembles

Although they didn't quite make our best-dressed list, here are four more looks that garnered attention on the red carpet yesterday.

Kerry Washington in Miu Miu

Django Unchained star Kerry Washington went with an adorable, yet fashion-forward Miu Miu gown that perfectly blended color with embellishment. We love the way Kerry rocked this fun and feminine frock, right down to her matching coral-colored shoes and clutch.

Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta

Amy Adams channeled her inner Disney princess in a swoon-worthy Oscar de la Renta ballgown. This light gray dress exuded elegance with its beaded sweetheart neckline, multi-tiered ruffled skirt and long train. Amy opted to pair the dress with a simple updo and classic diamond jewelry, which created an understated, yet glamorous look. While some fashion commentators thought this look was boring, others adored Amy's pretty princess aesthetic. What do you think?

Zoe Saldana in Alexis Mabille Couture

Zoe Saldana always takes fashion risks on the red carpet, and last night she wore another one of those "love it or hate it" kind of looks. While many fashion commentators adored her couture Alexis Mabille gown -- which featured a floral appliqué bodice and gradient hemline -- others thought the oversized, bow-adorned belt made the ensemble look too busy. We want to know what you think -- did you love or loathe Zoe's look?

Halle Berry in Custom Atelier Versace

The gorgeous Halle Berry made quite the statement last night with this head-turning little number from Versace. Between the sequined stripes, plunging neckline and structured shoulders, one thing's for certain: this gown was b-o-l-d. Halle complemented her custom-made, Art Deco-inspired gown with a tousled 'do and matching black drop earrings.

Least Favorite Look

Of course, we can't love everything that goes down the red carpet. Here’s one look that we just weren't a fan of at last night's event.

Anne Hathaway in Prada

Anne Hathaway at the 2013 Oscars - close up

Rumor has it that "Best Supporting Actress" winner Anne Hathaway was all set up to wear Valentino to this year's ceremony, but instead opted for this blush pink Prada gown at the last minute.

Unfortunately, I really wasn't a fan of this look, due to the fact that the darting on the bodice was extremely ill-placed and super-distracting. I did like that Anne wore a Tiffany necklace backwards, although it seemed to get lost because of the criss-cross straps and tie-back waist. Tell me what you think -- was Anne's look a red carpet hit or miss?

Your thoughts?

Now that you know what we think, tell us your opinion. Did you watch the Oscars last night? What did you think of the red carpet fashion? Who wins your pick for best-dressed? Any looks you didn’t like? Be sure to leave a comment and let us know what you think!
