Think Barbies are just for kids? Think again. WWD is reporting that Mattel Inc. has teamed up with Forever 21, Lord & Taylor, and Wildfox Couture to create Barbie-inspired capsule collections.
All three collections will launch this fall, and each one takes inspiration from Barbie’s wardrobe in a different era. Jessica Dunne, Mattel’s general manager and senior vice president, spoke to WWD about the collaborations:
“I think what people pay attention to is Barbie the toy, and what we’re trying to focus on is that Barbie is a brand much bigger than an 11-inch fashion doll.”
Items from the Forever 21 and Wildfox Couture Barbie collections
Forever 21‘s ’90s-inspired capsule collection launches online and in stores September 5 and includes everything from outerwear to cosmetics. Prices range from $3.90 to $24.90.
On September 14, Lord & Taylor is releasing a sleepwear collection inspired by the more conservative ’50s and ’60s era Barbie. This collab, priced between $32 and $46 will only be available at 10 Lord & Taylor stores.
You’ll have to wait until November 15 if you want to snag Wildfox Couture‘s designs. They’re recreating acutal outfits Barbie rocked in the ’80s, like the “Ken” sweater above. The collection, called “The Wildfox Dreamhouse” is priced between $37.50 and $183, and can be purchased at select high-end and online retailers, including Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Revolve Clothing.
