“On My Playlist” takes new hits and old favorites and turns them into outfits anyone can rock.
It’s the week before Valentine’s Day! Even though I personally don’t consider myself a romantic, this past week has seen me blasting love songs on constant loop.
However, my inspiration this week isn’t from the likes of T. Swift. Nope; my playlist has been nostalgic to the extreme. (Think songs that would have possibly been played at high school dances.) The top three songs? Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” Maroon 5’s “She Will Be Loved,” and Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive.”
Since I’m still in the mood for chill vibes, these songs are perfect but still powerful and sweet enough to make the most unromantic person blush. (And the one song that isn’t sweet is sassy, because sometimes being single is the best!) There’s a reason they find themselves on playlists through the ages.
Keeping in line with the music, the outfits were designed with romance in mind, so no matter your style, you can still feel the love this holiday.
I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing
Here, I wanted to capture this sappy song’s romance in an outfit that can take you from class to a date (or even a party!). Casual on top, sweet on the bottom, this outfit has it all: a tulle skirt perfect for twirling your way into a love story and a cozy long sleeve shirt that just so happens to pay tribute to Aerosmith.
To take this outfit up a notch, tuck the shirt into the skirt and belt it (the belt’s bow is an adorable touch). Finish it off with a pair of sensible, but cute shoes. The beauty of this outfit is that you can dress it up with an updo, a peacoat, and swipes of blush and lipstick, or down with a leather jacket, smoky eye makeup (or no makeup at all) and a floppy hat.
She Will Be Loved
For this look, I took a bit of inspiration from the song lyrics, as well as the wet and cold weather that February always brings. I wanted to be sure that I included a practical look that could double as an outfit for a coffee-run-turned-date, or even a night out with your ladies.
The look is laid back yet tough, consisting of thick rubber boots, a warm leather jacket, and practical black jeans. It’s the little touches that make the outfit cute, though, from the coat’s shearling to the green henley, to the dark red lipstick and soft, slouchy beanie.
This look is all about understated sweetness, and you can add even more with a choker necklace, or even some traditional heart-shaped jewelry (the more delicate, the better)!
I Will Survive
Single ladies, rejoice! Before Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”, there was Gloria Gaynor’s “I Will Survive” for post-breakup confidence boosts. No matter what version, be it the classic or Demi Lovato’s more recent rendition, this is a grooving song that’s perfect for a girls night out.
In this outfit, the dress provides enough sparkle to pop on the dance floor, while the booties are cute but sturdy enough to keep you on your feet after hours of boogieing. Wear your heart on your necklace, but assert your awesome single self with a cozy, sassy sweatshirt that also balances out the dress.
Bring Back the Beat!
