September is Fashion Month; it not only kicks off the Fall/Winter season of the fashion calendar but also gives us a peek into what will be trending during the Spring/Summer season. While guests of fashion week were seeing next year’s spring and summer trends, they were sporting some seriously stylish fall outfits.
This definitely works in our favor as style observers — now we have a month’s worth of gorgeous fall looks to recreate!
There are so many fantastic fashion week street style looks to get excited about. I sincerely encourage you to go digging through Instagram for more inspiration.
For today, though, here are some of my favorite street style looks from Fashion Month and some fashion tips we can take from them!
New York Fashion Week Street Style
The street style during NYFW S/S 2020 was heavily influenced by workwear. So many great looks styled basics like blazers, pencil skirts, and trousers to make them look effortlessly chic and casual.
Other major highlights included cardigans (see our guide to fall cardigans to get your own!), pastels, and statement hair candy.
The look above exudes effortless chic. It’s also so easy to recreate since these are all basics!
Layer a blazer over a graphic tee and midi-skirt combo, slip on your favorite chunky sneakers and add a pop of color in a statement midi bag. Easy, breezy, fashion girl.
Monochromatic dressing was huge during fashion month!
If you feel a little overwhelmed by the idea of only wearing one color, a suit may be the perfect place to start. I also love the fall tones in this outfit — brown accessories are the perfect complement to this bold orange suit.
More workwear and more mini-bags. And we aren’t mad about it.
This look really caught my eye — the corset is such a statement piece! Although not exactly wearable for everyday life, it definitely makes a case for cinching your waist in an oversized piece.
Statement belts are going to be another huge trend this fall, so think of this as extreme inspiration. Plus, I have a feeling corsets — or at least corset-style tops — are going to be coming back in the months ahead.
This look is my inspiration to wear my luxe fabrics into fall. Plus, I love the layered chains (definitely a trend to look out for this fall).
Top the look off with a beret (one of our favorite fall headwear trends) and you’re ready to hit the town.
There is so much to love about this look. The fluffy pink trim on the layered tank top is such a cute statement — it adds so much to this neutral-toned look.
Feathers are definitely going to be trending when it comes to night-out looks this fall, so let this look inspire you to try them!
London Fashion Week Street Style
LFW brought us some very edgy street style looks. Notable trends spotted on the streets of London included leather, patchwork, lug-sole booties (fall trend alert!) and puffy sleeves.
Other highlights included red bags, riding boots, and everything utility.
This look is straight out of the Matrix, in the best way possible.
The leather trench is very bold, but this outfit totally makes a case for investing in a statement jacket. It’s pulled together by these sleek riding boots (which seem to be a growing must-have for fall!), and a chic mini bag in a very fall-appropriate red.
So much to dissect here. Two-piece sets have been trending forever, but this snake print variety really gives the look an extra edge.
Bettina’s look incorporates puffy sleeves, leather, and a red mini-bag – the poster girl for LFW trends. Plus, I’m loving the mismatched shoes – a new trend?
Bonus! She’s wearing socks and heels, another cute fall trend.
Houndstooth is fall staple, and it works so well with this season’s preppy trend – I mean, look at that headband!
Statement belts are also going to be a big trend this season, and I absolutely love the idea of using one to cinch an oversized blazer.
This look pairs an oversized plaid suit with lime green accessories (not pictured is a lime green mini-bag).
I’m a huge fan of using neon brights in statement pieces, especially when the outfit is monochrome or neutral-heavy. Also, using rubber bands to create the illusion of a gathered pant leg? Major hack for when you thrift pants that are too long.
Fall is leather weather, so it’s no wonder that there was so much leather happening on the streets of fashion month!
This belted leather trench-dress is definitely on the bulky side, but it keeps you warm and does all the work — no styling required! Although, I do love the embellished headbands!
Milan Fashion Week Street Style
Who said you can’t wear white after Labor Day? I’m not planning on getting rid of my skinny jeans any time soon, but I have been noticing that straight leg and slightly flared jeans have been on the fashion radar again.
This is the poster look for fall’s utility-grunge trend.
All you need to look like an Olsen twin straight out the matrix is a leather blazer, a pair of combat boots, and a statement bag.
Originally, I liked this look because of how many different prints were being mixed. Upon closer inspection, I realized that Tamu had layered an oxford shirt underneath this printed dress! Sheer brilliance, and I love how much texture it adds to the look.
This is exactly how to make a groutfit (that’s an all-grey outfit) look effortlessly chic. I love the matching scarf, and I love the brown-toned accessories even more.
Paris Fashion Week Street Style
Another strong contender for fall’s preppy trend – this is straight out of a modern-day Clueless!
My first thought when I saw this was that it would be even cuter with a trendy mini-cardigan in that same light blue tone.
By now, you are well aware that workwear remains trendy and shows no signs of going away.
I love the oversized suiting look — notably how the waistline of the trousers still cinches in the waist to give the outfit more structure, and how the massive tote bag makes the rest of the suit look far less oversized.
Save this look for those days where you can’t decide between edgy streetwear or workwear.
These shredded sleeves give an effortlessly cool and grungy vibe, especially when worn with loafers. I love the contrast between the shredded sweatshirt and the floral shirt that peeks through the holes — it adds so much texture.
Also, slide to the second photo to see a super-chic statement belt!
Hello, fall layers! This is another strong contender for wearing your luxe fabrics into fall — who says the slip dresses have to be stowed away come September?
To make this more wearable for everyday, layer a shorter slip dress or neutral mini-dress over a turtleneck — and keep the monochrome palette for added sleek appeal.
To complete the list, we have a very cute midi-dress with chic gathered sleeves (another fall trend to watch), paired with knee-high boots. Sweet and chic!
