In the comments section on last week’s post, 90210 Fashion – How to Dress Like Annie Wilson, you guys had some questions about the TV fashion series that I’ve been writing.
The first question you guys asked was will I continue the Vampire Diaries series (sure!), and the second question was concerning the 90210 seasons. Many of you commented that Annie’s style has progressed since Season 1, and wanted me to use more recent photos of the characters this time.
Well, this week, I did my best to find the most recent photos of Silver‘s style so hopefully this week’s post will give you the exact inspiration that you wanted! Read on to find out how to emulate Silver’s style from 90210.
Erin Silver is Beverly Hills’ Gossip Girl and the half-sister of David Silver of the original Beverly Hills 90210 television series. Throughout the three seasons, she has started to shed her disdain for the typical “high school popularity contest” and her style has reflected that. Silver’s style is mix between girly comfort and edginess, while always being completely unique.
Silver’s Closet Essentials
Although her style is a bit unpredictable, there are a few staple styles and pieces that are almost always incorporated into Silver’s outfits.
Silver is a pro at balancing classic menswear pieces with sky-high heels or girly tops. Throughout the seasons, she’s been seen rocking both shrunken and oversized blazers, trousers and vests, and always remixing them to create a whole new look.
I admit, trousers and oversized blazers can be pretty hard to pull off (especially if you’re petite!), but fitted pieces like a vest or a shrunken jacket are flattering on almost any body type. Dressed up with a skirt or down with denim, menswear is versatile, stylish and modern.
Unique Tunics and Tees
Blouses, tunics, tees and tanks – Silver’s closet has them all. Don’t mistake her style for that of her ultra-feminine costars (like Annie Wilson), though – her tops are always funky and edgy. Although she often pairs a top with a favorite pair of jeans for a day of classes, Silver also mixes and matches colorful tops and wears them tucked into skirts or under vests.
The key to emulating her laid-back stylish look is to find the perfect balance between “edge” and comfort. Look for tops in basic shapes and fabrics (that you’ll be comfortable in) but that still have a fun pattern or embellishment. Urban Outfitters and ModCloth are both great resources – and you’ll be sure to stand out from the crowd in their wares.
Over the last few weeks, many of you have asked for not only key wardrobe pieces of the featured character, but also a few specific outfit ideas. With warmer weather (hopefully) near and Spring Break coming up, these two looks are the perfect shopping inspiration and they won’t empty your bank account.
Pretty purple, an adorable patterned mini skirt, simple necklaces and a cute cross-body bag – what else would you need for a day of classes? This outfit is the perfect mix of style and comfort – in a fun and unexpected color. Although it’s tempting to dress up in something uncomfortable for class, you always have to remember that you’ll be in that outfit all day – comfort is important!
Stick to short sleeves shirts and tanks that are in a soft cotton, but that aren’t too basic. Retailers like Forever 21 and Old Navy always have great (affordable) options for comfy, cute tops. Also, add a simple patterned skirt to give your look some interest.
For Spring Break
While we may not all be lucky enough to head out on a yacht this Spring Break, that shouldn’t stop us dressing cute in the warm weather! So whether you’re lounging in your backyard, or on a tropical island, Silver’s casual style is pretty perfect.
Gladiator sandals, sunglasses and a chic hat are all must-haves for a day in the sun, but with all of those accessories, there is no reason to go overboard with your outfit (a la Naomi). Opt for a basic pair of denim cutoffs and a cute tank and vest in natural colors – you’ll fit right in with your tropical paradise (whether real or imagined).
Tying it All Together
What do you think of Silver’s style? Which do you prefer – her funky looks or Annie’s more feminine style? With the warmer months coming soon, 90210 is a perfect show to look to for spring and summertime inspiration. What are your go-to pieces for classes in the warm weather? I love to hear your feedback and opinions, be sure to leave a comment!
