I know what you’re thinking. In the words of the fierce and fearsome Miranda Priestly: “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.” But, floral prints have been given a makeover recently, going far beyond the usual dainty dresses, blouses, and skirts. This season, be on the lookout for super-bold, super-saturated floral prints adorning unconventional pieces like heels, trousers, and jackets.
Below, I’ll show you three college-appropriate ways to wear three trendy floral pieces for spring 2013. Scroll on down to check ’em out:
For Class: A Floral Blazer
Floral blazers are one of my favorite trends at the moment. Blazers always have a polished and professional feel, but a bold floral print keeps things youthful and on-trend, too.
For a campus-ready outfit, pair a striped top with a pair of comfy boyfriend-style jeans. Layer on a floral print blazer for a fun take on the mixed prints trend. Pointy-toe flats keep things casual, while this purple cross-body bag picks up on the colors found on the blazer. Next, accessorize with a cool geode bracelet and a practical gold watch. Paint your nails a pretty turquoise shade to complete this look.
For the Weekend: Floral Shorts
Getting bored with your plain ol’ denim cut-offs? Floral print shorts are a stylish alternative that can be worn to create a cute, yet casual weekend look.
In the look above, I paired these colorful floral shorts with a matching racerback tank. This reddish-pink statement necklace not only matches the darker-colored flowers on the shorts, but creates a monochromatic look when paired with the top. Keep the outfit appropriate for spring with a pair of strappy sandals and some oversized shades. A trendy dip-dyed tote adds the finishing touch to this ensemble.
For a Night Out: Floral Print Pumps
Floral print pumps have been popping up in stores everywhere lately, and they’re the perfect way to give an edgy nighttime look a flirty, feminine vibe.
Start by pairing these ankle strap pumps with a blue dress — I love how this F21 frock shows just a slight sliver of skin. Mint-hued statement earrings add a glam touch, while this citron yellow wristlet contrasts perfectly with the other colors in this look. Lastly, create an easy, nighttime-worthy smokey eye with the help of this palette.
