Do you struggle with transforming your outfits from day to night? Don’t worry, CF is here to help turn that daily annoyance into a fun challenge. This column will focus on one piece per week, and teach you how to take your look from study sessions in the library to dancing the night away.
The denim shirt is a recent trend that’s definitely here to stay. Lighter and softer than traditional denim jackets, these shirts can be paired with pretty much anything to instantly add an edge to your look. Denim shirts are cute, functional and extremely versatile, and can be the cherry on top of a variety of different looks.
Whether your favorite denim shirt is straight out of the ’80s, cowgirl chic, or menswear-inspired, it’s a new wardrobe staple that can be worn day or night. This week, I’ll be showing you how to style a classic denim shirt for both class and an evening out.
Denim Shirt: Class
Keep your denim shirt chic by pairing with some skinny corduroy pants in any color to create contrast. If you’re daring enough to rock denim on denim, make sure you choose a pair of jeans in a dark wash to avoid looking like you walked straight out of the Gold Rush! Sport your favorite geeky graphic tee (Gryffindor pride!) under the shirt to create a jacket effect, and cinch it all in with a skinny brown belt. Slouchy brown boots and a fun printed scarf complete this casual-but-cute look.
Denim Shirt: Night Out
Rock an edgy LBD under your denim shirt for a cool, slightly rugged look. This dress has a sequined swirl pattern that’s absolutely to die for, but try one with ruffles or feathers for an even more unique aesthetic. Pair the outfit with a black belt to add definition to your waist, and choose wild accessories like a leopard print clutch and feather earrings to match this look’s fierce vibe. Top everything off with some killer peep-toe ankle booties.
How do you style your denim shirts? Do you think they’re a wardrobe must-have? Leave me a comment and let me know, I’d love to hear what you think of the outfits!
