I have always been a firm believer in second chances.
And, by second chances, I mean I am willing to hand them out like candy to greedy kids on Halloween.
As you can imagine, trying so hard to hold on to something that continually escapes your grasp gets exhausting.
Here’s a pro tip that I have recently learned: don’t continue to chase something that keeps running from you!
The truth is, turning away from someone or something is hard, especially if you want to believe so badly.
So, I ask you this: at what point do you realize something you love isn’t loving you back in the way you deserve?
It’s not an easy realization to pinpoint, but hopefully these 5 things will help you realize when it is time to let go:
1. When Your Happiness Has Been Sacrificed
I understand that not everything in life is all butterflies and rainbows (wow, wouldn’t that be great??) but being happy goes hand-in-hand with being healthy.
There is only so much you can put into something, and when that something begins to completely drain what makes you, you, it’s time to cut it.
2. Recognize What is in (and Out of) Your Control
If the time, energy, and effort you are putting into something is all your own and worth it, there is no reason to give up.
But, when there is someone or something else involved and affecting the outcome, that’s when things get a little dicey.
It is your responsibility to be in control of you, but YOU alone cannot control the actions of others or the outcome of all situations.
YOU are the only thing you can control 100% of the time!
3. Understand that Perfection is Unachievable
Each of us is perfectly made, but it is impossible to live up to its dictionary definition.
Just like there are imperfections in each of us, there are imperfections in relationships, dreams, and situations.
In order to make things work you need to release that image of perfection in your head and accept what is and what will be. If accepting imperfection is not an option, that is where you need to question what it is you’re putting your energy into.
4. When it Begins to Change Who You Are
The vibes you put out into the world are the vibes that are attracted to you.
Allowing someone or something to change who you are will forever affect what comes back to you.
Never let someone or something take the parts of yourself that make you special!
5. At the End of the Day, Trust Your Gut
She may a b*tch, but I promise you, she is never wrong.
If something no longer feels right, then it isn’t!
But, that’s not to say it was ever wrong. As we continue in life we grow out of old things and into new ones; neither is wrong.
Don’t let someone or something hold you back from growing into the person you are meant to be.
At the end of the day, things come and go in life, but you are the one who has to live your life.
I want to hear from you in the comments below!
Have you ever had to move on from a hard situation? What about moving on from a person? How have you let go?
