While here at CF, we’d never advocate unhealthy habits like actual smoking, we can’t seem to resist sauntering into some smoking slippers this Fall. Despite the toxic name, these shoes aren’t dangerous… well, not to our lungs, at least.

If you can get past the association with Hugh Hefner’s footwear of choice, this style is an easy change to make when you’re bored with your basic ballet flats. There’s truly a smoking slipper style for everyone – the leopard print, glitter, and studded varieties shown above are just a few examples.

We’re ready to borrow this from the boys. If you’re on our side with this one, below are some budget-friendly smoking slippers under $50:

Smoking slippers
Product Information: Plaid – Modcloth, Leopard – Lulu’s, Silver glitter – Modcloth, Black cutouts – Lulu’s, Skull – Zara, Gold studded – Zara, Camel w/ cutouts – Urban Outfitters, Hot pink – Urban Outfitters

Now we want to know your thoughts!

Do you like smoking slippers? Or are they too casual for your taste?  Would you wear them this fall? Which pair above is your favorite? Leave us a comment and let’s discuss!

Absolutely! I already have a pair of black velvet ones that I bought to make into DIY cat loafers and a pair of vintage brown leather ones I used for a Margot Tenenbaum costume. I thought they were called loafers, though.

They’re not something that really fits in with my style–but I feel if I could find a pair that fits me I might try them out! Like something in a classic solid brown might be cute!

Are these the same things as loafers, except with a different name?

I just recently bought a pair of plain, black ones and I love them already! I can’t for the weather to get cooler so I can wear them more often. :)

I’m really glad you showed inexpensive options! I’ve been wanting ones from Charlotte Olympia but they cost about $800!

I’ve been wanting a pair of leopard smoking slippers. I actually found a pair at Kmart for $20, but I thought they were kind of uncomfortable, and I wasn’t sure how well they’d hold up. They looked really cute though!

I just bought a pair of these todays! They’re the shape of a smoking slipper, with a red cap-toed brogue detailing and the tassles from penny loafers. Talk about rocking multiple trends at once! Deflintely go to TJ Maxx. The one near my house had multiple types of smoking slippers and the prices were all very reasonable.

Very wearable, comfy trend. Just different enough from my other flats but easy to incorporate into the wardrobe – I’m sold.

They’re called smoking slippers? Wow. I always just assumed they were modernized loafers. I actually bought a leopard pair a few months back at a local MJM shoe store. I love them. They work with everything I wear and are so comfortable, but definitely not for rainy days. :)

I love the look of them…just not on me (or maybe it’s my feet?). I tried on a couple pairs at H&M and they just made my feet look too long. I usually wear flats with a rounded toe, which make my feet look smaller (to me at least). Maybe i just haven’t found the right pair yet??

Definitely! It took me a while to get into them, but now I’m obsessed! I have bright green ones that I got at Lulu’s, and they’ve held up really well. I’ll definitely be trying to get a few more pairs.

These shoes just remind me of the slippers my nan wears around the house. O_o, definitely not for me, but then my tastes have never been mainstream. I prefer a nice basic flat.
