Would You Wear… Ombre Fingernail Polish?

If you read CF regularly, chances are you are pretty familiar with ombre hair and clothing. Long maxi dresses in graduated colors and two-tone hair have been seen all over college campuses, so let’s discuss the hottest new trend in ombre: fingernail polish.
If you are uninspired by your monochrome fingernails at the end of summer, the ombre look is a bold way to spice them up. The manicure consists of five different colored fingernail polishes – each a progression of the same shade from light to dark.
Lauren Conrad in particular has made ombre fingernails a buzzing topic around the internet, but are they a look you would consider painting on your own fingertips? While most college girls can’t afford to buy five different bottles of nail polish in only slightly-different tones, you can create this look for less by mixing a dark tone with increasing amounts of white polish.
What are your thoughts?
Will you try the ombre fingernail polish trend? What color would you choose for your ombre manicure? Which look above is your favorite? Leave a comment below and let’s talk about it!

I don’t have great nails. Actually, I’m not a huge fan of my hands, but I definitely love this look. I actually saw it on Lauren Conrad’s beauty blog too!
Candice
My sister painted my nails in the ombré style but did the gradient on each nail. I think it turned out neat. http://t.co/QKZQRf2 love the site!!
Ashlee
I love this look!

I love this look! The only problem is that you have to have a lot of colors to pull of this look and that can get costly. Especially when the colors are so close! I like variety in my polish collection so I don’t see myself spending 20 dollars to get several shades of the same color.

Definitely! I have lots of nail polish so I will be trying this several times :)

I tried this out with pink shades (ranging from rosy to white) and I think it looks pretty sweet. :)

I tried this two weeks ago. I don’t think my colors were close enough, and tried to tie the theme together by lining the tip with my darkest color. I gave the look a 6/10, but I did receive many complements saying it was cool–so I guess it was a success!
Danielle
I love it! I would definitely do it if I had the time :-/
Lily
I would wear it! In fact I do, right now. I used red since it was the only color I had five shades of. It worked out really nicely, I just wish my friends would have realized how pretty and trendy I was, haha.
Bri

for everyone saying you need to get a lot of polish, no you don’t. just one dark color and mix with white, making it lighter every time!
Pauline

Emma

Nikki
I was just thinking of doing this during the wkend
Lydia
love doing this when i dont want to wear monochrome colours :).
Karen
I’ve been doing this for forever now. You can use 5 different polishes, can use a light and a dark and mix them to get middle colors or use 3 colors on the thumb, middle and pinky, mixing them to get the ring and pointer colors.

Love love love this look
Alee

I did it and it looks really great! I used different shades of green and light-blue, starting with revlon’s jaded (http://www.ilovenailpolish.ca/2010/08/revlon-top-speed-jaded.html) then maybelline’s absinto (http://superdimitri.blogspot.com/2011/04/resena-colorama-absinto.html) and then three really cheap shades of light-blue that look like this ones: http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P292001&categoryId=C107 (haymarket milky shade green), http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P217311&categoryId=RVP (Slushled opaque turquoise blue and Havana Dreams -sheer pale sky blue).

I can’t believe I never thought of mixing in white polish to do this! I’ve been avoiding it because I thought I didn’t have the right colors.
Matina

Lindsay

Megan
I LOVE this!! I love how every time you do it, it is completely different than the time before! Probably my new favorite thing!!
Stari
I don’t really like all the different colors on each nail but seventeen.com did a post on ombre nails where they took a dark blue polish for about 1/3 of the nail starting from the cuticle and then took a lighter blue polish and dragged the dark blue down into the light blue. I painted my nails like that and got so many compliments<3 they were fabulous!

Love the trend, but don’t like the strong association w/ L.C. I feel it’s a little late after reading this back in 2009… The source of my obsession:

But I still love the look
