Would You Wear… Jade Green Nail Polish?

Chanel Jade Green Nail polish - hot nail polish trend
Rachel Bilson and models at Chanel wearing jade green nail polish, and a photo of Chanel Le Vernis in Jade

As every fashion fan knows, with every Chanel collection comes a new polish trend – it’s practically tradition. Right now, the color of the moment is jade green, a lighter-than-evergreen, darker-than-mint shade, and everyone from Rachel Bilson to Drew Barrymore is a fan.

Originally, the jade green hue in question was created exclusively for Chanel Fall 2009 Ready to Wear, but overwhelming response from fans helped bring the polish to stores. Chanel Le Vernis in Jade debuted on Chanel.com recently and it’s already well on its way to selling out.

Since dark nails have been the fall standard for years now, it’s refreshing to see a lighter color in style for fall. While Chanel previously made waves with their dark evergreen color, Jade is a more fun shade that’s likely to become mainstream soon.

Personally, I’ve been obsessed with this shade since I saw it on the runways and already have a bottle of my own. It’s one of those colors that works on everyone, and it’s such a fun change from the typical navy blue or black I usually rock in fall.

Of course, if you don’t want to drop the cash for Chanel, you can always find cheaper versions at Sephora or drugstores. Who What Wear recommends Illamasqua Nail Varnish in Milf ($14 at Sephora.com), and OPI also has a matte shade called Gargantuan Green Grape Matte ($8, at salons) that’s also quite similar.

So what do you think? Would you wear jade green nail polish? Or do you usually stick to more basic nail colors? Leave a comment and let us know what you think of this hot polish trend.

I personally LOVE this colour. It’s really fresh and has echoes of the leaves before they turn yellow, red, orange, etc for fall. A nice change from boring black and similarly dark shades.

Oh my gosh, that color is so cool. I really like it, it’s not to light and not too dark. I really want it, I could totally see myself wearing that color, and I love chanel’s polishes they stay on for a long time.

I like it! That is refreshing to see a lighter nail color. I really like how it works with the black!

What I first noticed in those photos was that green tweed jacket. That’s fabulous – I want one :)

I love green nail polish of any hue, I think it’s gorgeous and definitely interesting to see adorning someone’s nails.

I love the concept, but being Asian I don’t think I’d be able to pull off green hues. I guess it’s the “olive” undertones in our skin? I always cringe when I see a fellow Asian wearing green eyeshadow. Not saying it’s impossible to pull off, but that it’s quite difficult. But, of course, that’s just my opinion!

I love this color too! I do think that you have to have certain skin tones to pull off some of this season’s nail polish colors. For me, nail polish is like any other make-up product, you need to find the right shade to compliment your complexion. The Chanel color is so gorgeous!

    I LOVE this color.

I have an obsession with all OPI nail polish, so I’ll be trying it in the similar shade… idk if it will work on me, but hey, I’ll try it.

Green nail polish is pretty much my signature thing (for about 4 years now) and I’ve spent that time collecting nail polishes of pretty much every shade of green, including this one. I think it’s amazing but I’m going to be a little sad if I start seeing green nail polish everywhere since usually I’m the only one that I see who’s wearing it.

I LOVE this color. I think its the perfect fall/winter color because its not super bright, but still gives a slight pop of color.

I loved this color ! Usually I don’t like color on my nails too much, I mostly use french manicure or simple pink but I’m sure I’ll try this !

Of course. :) It’s not like a new haircut you are stuck with! I think EVERYONE should try it at least once. It’s like a top, you don’t know how cute it really is til you try it on. ;)

    Never!
I admit that the images you chose for the article represent beautiful outfits, but green is the only color I wouldn’t wear even at the cost of my life [even if the coat in the second shot has a great jade shade: who wore it?]. Plus, I prefer a more neutral nail polish, so I say no to this trend.

P.S.: I’ve seen the Chanel polish, and I still prefer the Jade Rose one to the other.

I agree that the green polish reminds me of the leaves just before they turn red, yellow, and orange. I now know how I’m doing my nails!

Yes! I freaking love nail polish, I have over 100 bottles and use them all! I love love this color, but Chanel nail polish is a little pricey. Orly also sells a little brighter mint green called “Mint Mojito” which is really nice and much more affordable, Mac has one called “Peppermint Patti”, and Essie has “Greenport,” which is a little bluer (I am obsessed with these shades). You can get both Essie and Orly (and OPI) for much cheaper here http://transdesign.com/ . Check it out!

Typically the colors that are in-style are much too dark for my skin tone. It’s nice to see a lighter shade making it big. And of course, green is my favourite color. I’d totally try Jade. I think it’s gorgeous! :)

Jessica – You’re right, that jacket is amazing! It’s Chanel, of course.

cantgetenoughpink – Hmm, not sure! You could maybe try eBay!

Annessa – Ooh, will have to check out the essie shade. Love their nail polish!

Patricia – It’s a trend and WhoWhatWear didn’t invent it, but you’re right, their article did inspire this story. As evidenced by my LINK to their post in the article. Had you payed attention and “stepped up” YOUR game, you might have noticed that.
