Would You Wear… Gingham?

From left: Amerie in Diane Von Furtstenburg, Christopher Kane dress on the runway, Lauren Conrad in McQ
Hundreds of iconic beauties throughout the years have sported gingham. From Brigitte Bardot’s pink and white gingham wedding dress to Dorothy’s classic blue frock in the Wizard of Oz, gingham has certainly made its mark on fashion history. And this season’s resurgence of All-American-chic has not left this print out. But would you wear it?
Much less alternative and more wholesome than plaid, there are two main directions to go in whilst wearing gingham. One way is to play up and embrace the squeaky-clean image – throw on a headband and keep your look simple and low key. Another way is to bring the print into the modern age with a different cut of dress and dolled up accessories.
I’ve created two example ways to wear gingham for you to check out below.
Outfit #1: A Throwback

Product Information: Red Gingham Dress: Miss Selfridge, Woven Headband: Forever 21, Pearl Drop Earrings: Carolee, Patent Flats: Fred Flare
Outfit #2: Make It Modern

Product Information: Grey Cami: Style for Less, Gingham Skirt: Christopher Kane, Gold Earrings: Zad, Nude Pumps: Nine West
Thoughts? Questions? Concerns?
Would you wear gingham, or do you think it’s too farm girl? Personally, I love it! I’m looking for a gingham sun dress as we speak. What would you wear it with? Debate in the comments!

Not really a fan of the outfits, but the ideas are cute. I think this trend is definitely an option, but I’m not sure how to rock it yet.
Cheryl
I don’t think I could…it reminds me of table cloths. Though I think the Christopher Kane dress at the top is adorbs!
Jennifer
Love the first dress, too bad it’s from the UK or else I would buy it.
Emily
I love gingham, I’d be happy to wear it all the time.
Starsarella
i’d wear it. it looks FAB on LC . i don’t liek the “modern look” its a little weird.
Ally
Yes, definitely.
Great look, it’s not too trendy, so you could actually wear it all the time.

I really like these outfits, and that makes me what to like Gingham…. but…. I just can’t get into it. Maybe I would like it on accessories, but that’s it. I just reminds me too much of table cloths! I just can’t do it. Maybe a scarf, bag, or swimsuit I could handle.
<3 the dress darling

Haha think of Scarlett Johannson and how she rocks the retro look, that might give you a few ideas ! =)
JillAnn
I’m in love with the Miss Selfridge dress! I would wear that any day.
Liz
So glad I recently thrifted a Converse One Star plaid dress, hope that’s close enough to gingham! I would love a sweet little red and white gingham blouse!
nay

Sure!
The bigger the pattern the better it seems to look.
Sorry Conrad, that fits not looking to good. : (

gingham seems like a great piece to mix and match, I don’t think I’d wear a whole gingham outfit, but I’d wear a top or bottom and mix it in with my normal wardrobe.
Milana
Yes, but I think only as a shirt. Get a little too much if it’s the whole outfit (as in the dress)!

Why is it called Gingham? I’d just call it buffalo plaid
Jennifer
Gingam is so adorable. It is definitely something I would wear.

The Christopher Kane dress is beautiful! I think the muted tones make it look special while the opaque cotton-y dresses are more casual.
Madeleine
I feel like gingham is a bit too farm girl for my opinion. I don’t think I’d be able to wear this without feeling like I’m Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz. It’s just a bit too wholesome for me personally.

I think you have to have the right personality to pull off gingham. I think enough different pieces are made in gingham that different body types can pull it off, but I think you have to be girly and sweet to pull it off. Good article!

Gingham is amazing. I live in the South, so of course I love it, and have perfect weather to wear it. I have a pair of shoes with gingham on the wedges and little bows on the front that I just adore.
