Would You Wear… (faux) Leather Leggings?

If you are all about embracing your inner wild child, leather leggings are rocker-cool, ultra-trendy, and totally chic. These have been in and out of style for a few seasons now, but this fall, it seems every store and brand has their own version.
Here at College Fashion, we prefer faux leather to real, and fortunately, it’s super easy to get this look in a budget- and animal-friendly way. From rubber options to waxed denim to simple faux leather pants, there are so many faux options out there. Here are three of our faves:

Love waxed denim to pull off this trend! :)

No doubt the look is ultra chic, but i kinda feel uncomfortable in this look, i prefer normal stretchy tights over this look as they are easy-to-go yet classy!! what you say??
Lizzie
a little 80s hair metal… maybe. But still love them. I have 3 pairs in different styles
Natalie
I do wear them when I go out sometimes, with a vest, heels and blazer…makes an otherwise simple look a bit more interesting! But I don’t have the courage to wear them without the cover of darkness!
Melanie
I just bought a pair of faux leather leggings from Zara but I have no idea how to wear them. I mean I can see myself wearing them for a night out with heels, a boyfriend blazer and rocker chic jewellery but is there a way I can dress them down for daytime ? If you’d do a post about this, I’d be so happy ! Maybe a Class to Night Out edition ?
Rina
They look more appropriate to wear as pants than regular black leggings are because the material makes them look like coated denim (fancy pants) rather than undergarments.

i wish i could cash in on this trend, but being in the super casual Pacific NW (even going out at night) and working a conservative office jobs doesn’t permit buying a pair. BOO!

This trend is awesome on others, but it’s like someone took one look at my legs and was like, let’s see how unflattering we can be. I’d rather wear something that shows off what I got than wear something working in opposition. Trend for me to pass on :(
Eddi
Gotta love the budget friendly options. This does have a rockers/80s look to it but with just a few small additions, could turn the look around to something that fits you, for today’s fashion. I love it.

I could wear them as a legging underneath a dress, or in a thicker material as a coated denim – but not the legging material as a pant.
Tights are not leggings, leggings are not pants, pants are….pants ;)

I personally like waxed leggings. The ones at Express are not too shiny but still look interesting. I plan on putting them with neutral oversized sweaters and boots this winter!
Kimberly
I’ve had a pair since they were first in style and never wore them. I have no idea how to wear them so I’m excited to see what suggestion this website comes up with hint hint ;-)
Tiffany
I’m LOVING this trend! I can’t wait to get me some. I would definitely style it with neutral layered tops (maybe a plaid tunic?) and some black heels (: it’s definitely a mary-kate olsen look I think, which is fabulous.

for sure! as long as I’m not wearing anything else very tight or low cut, just class them up with wedges or pointed heels, a blouse or v-neck and finish with a blazer! So long as they wear like pants (thick material) and aren’t too shiny.
Ashleigh
I’m wearing some today, actually!! :D
I’d say as long as they’re not SUPER shiny & don’t look cheap, go for it!
(Also make sure your bum is covered)
Ali
Absolutely love. I tone them down with a graphic sweater or an oversized tee. For a more classy/girly/feminine look I pair them with pretty sheer blouses and shades of blush and pink.

Yes yes yesssss. I’ve been waiting for these to become a big deal so I could find some affordable ones! Really excited to rock this look come fall.
Alex
I bought a pair last fall, I wear them with EVERYTHING. oversized sweaters, as part of a “suit”, high-low tops
Melanie
Yes I would!! Actually, I already have a pair from an online store called Windsor. They’re super cheap and really cute on!
Tay
Just wore my leather leggings today. Leggings+oversized striped top+flats= super comfy and simple chic :)
Nessa
YESSS!! I’ve had a pair since May and I love love love them. I used to just wear them out but I finally got a chambray shirt, paired them together with red lipstick and had a fierce mall/dentist/hanging with my bestie outfit. They are perfect with nearly every kind of top and look quite all right if I do say so on my awesome behind. Love this post, but please feel free to put up outfit ideas because those leggings are expensive and fabulous and I would like to wear them as much as possible !
Savannah
Definitely! It’s hard to find a pair that comes in my size, but I haven’t given up hope yet. These are too cool to pass up!
Kristin
I’ve never been a fan of leggings, so I will be skipping this trend.
Rosa
I like the first outfit. I like to wear tights and leggings but leather leggings are not so feminine in my opinion. I like other cloth.
Ellen
I don’t even own a pair of leggings, but I’ve been drooling over these!
Jill
After I lose the baby weight (and then some) I’d do this one, as well as the colored denim trend (which I’d been doing for years but feel uncomfortable in while I’m heavier). There are lots of ways to dress these down!

I like to wear tights and leggings but leather leggings are not so fit for the curvy ladies, I personally feel that.
