Would You Wear… Designer Bunny Ears?

Louis Vuitton Fall 2009 RTW, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen at the Opening Ceremony party, LV Fall ‘09 RTW
Designers like Marc Jacobs are known to push fashion boundaries and send us outside our sartorial comfort zones. That’s part of what makes them so great – constant designer innovation means more experimentation and new trends to try in real life.
But are designer bunny ears a fashion risk worth taking or too editorial for normal-person wear? You be the judge in this week’s Would You Wear.
The whole designer bunny ears trend can be credited to Louis Vuitton Fall 2009, where designer Marc Jacobs sent various bunny-eared models down the runway. According to Jacobs, who finally explained the bunny ears this summer, the idea came about almost by accident, when he saw a member of his design team wearing fabric tied around her head in a bow that resembled ears. In the interview, Jacobs said “I like the kind of Playboy, French coquette aspect to it.”
Following in Marc’s footsteps, famous hat designer Maison Michel did a line of veiled animal ear headbands, which were spotted recently on the always fashion-forward Olsen twins at an Opening Ceremony party.
Personally, I think this trend is adorable, but I don’t think I’d ever wear a pair in real life! I might make an exception for a more toned-down, bow-like version like this LV headband option, but unfortunately it’s a little out of my budget right now. What about you?
Would you wear designer bunny ears if money was no object? Do you think they’re real-life wearable, or are they good for editorials and fashion parties only? Leave a comment and let us know what you think!

I think the bunny ears idea is really cute but not wearable at all. If I saw a girl wearing these on my campus I would think someone was a little too excited for Halloween. Low key versions may be cute though.
Zephyr
Haha, yeah I can’t imagine any girl wearing these to class! But maybe a toned-down version for a party or something, could be cute.
STEPHANIE
excuse me? bunny ears when its not halloween or at the playboy mansion? huge NO.
Little Red
I think they look cute. However, I don’t see them being wearable for real-life. Some of them are way too extravagant and would just look silly. I’m sure it would definitely get you some crazy looks as well! Haha!
I do like the more bow-like LV ones you linked to. Those are more wearable in my opinion. They aren’t ridiculously huge.
Mary-Kate and Ashley look fabulous in them though. Then again, I think they can pull off anything!
Zephyr
Totally agree, MK&A can rock anything.
Washu
^^ totally wear theeem they look so cutee, but definetly not for school! =/
Katie
No thank you! Maybe for halloween, but not for every day wear. Lol.
Melanie
I think that its fun to push the limits in fashion, but if I wore these to class, people would think I was a joke, and I doubt I would be taken seriously in other aspects! I would wear them to a party though of course.
Valeria
Wouldn’t that cover up the board for the people behind her? Lol!!
Maybe for Halloween :P
Vanessa Anne
this is something that could not be pulled off in a high school hallway. leave it to the glamorous high fashion world.
Hazy
Back in highschool when I was confined to an extremely drab uniform I used to wear a hairband with cat ears on it all the time, mostly just to be different, so I don’t find this trend all that radical.
I think it’s really cute. Probably not class appropriate (college or highschool – bunny ears can run on the tall side and people behind you may not find that oh so cute) and definitely not work appropriate, but for a night out with the girls? Sure why not! Fashion is supposed to be fun :)

I wore tiger/cat ears for about 3 years (daily). Granted they were no more than 2 inches tall and nearly the same color as my hair, but I think the bunny ears are cute. Practical in daily life, probably not, as bunny ears are a little bit.. up there. But cute for a fun night out.
Sadie
I don’t see them that bad, since a few years ago when I was in high school some people used to wear cat ears. Today only people who attend comic & role playing conventions use them. They’re certainly cute, but not wearable if you in your twenties or use a suit to work everyday. But I think is something people can use just to have fun…
Jennie
Hell no… unless it’s for Halloween. Even the models looks ridiculous but thats just my opinion.
Alana @ The Good Girl Gone Blog
What a strange trend!
Jennifer
As cute as I think animal ears are, I’m going to leave them for halloween and back in 2006 when I used to dress uhm . . . creatively. Honestly, I don’t see how these could really be considered an accessory, what would you wear it with?
Leira
At first I was thinking a big NO, but the headband you linked to, and probably the scarf that was the inspiration, are really cute! The height definitely means it’s not classroom wear, but I could see it even as daytime wear (as long as it looks mostly like a scarf, rather than a costume piece).
Casha
I absolutely love how the bunny ears wrap around the models ponytail. I think a smaller version would be cute.
Kayla Louis
Sorry that seems a little too Halloween-ish. Now I have another option for a costume, though. Thanx!
Ashley
they’re cute, but i wouldn’t be caught dead in those outside a costume party.
Ally
absolutely not. they look ridiculous. let’s hope they save this look only for the runway.
Megan Powers
never.
Kara
I cannot see anyone actually being able to pull these off. The Olsen’s look ridiculous!! The models don’t look great either. How is this Easter costume considered fashion?
Chelsey
I’m not surprised this stemmed from the hair bow headband. As soon as I saw this post I thought, “Someone took aspects of the Lady Gaga hair bow and ran with it lol.” The LV headband you chose is really cute, but that’s the only one I think we average girls could hope to pull off.
rachelle
hmm not for me but i can see a WAYY toned down version being really cute! (REALLYYYY toned down haha!)
Winnie
BWAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! That was my reaction to those pictures. Those models must have great composure to be able to keep from busting out laughing while wearing those.
reed
absolutely no
Alana
so i have to say i thought the post was a bit ridiculous (who would wear bunny ears? lol) but when i saw the LV ones I kinda loved it…that could totally be a DIY project and then you could control the height and just how much they actually look like bunny ears and just make it your own
Alana
omg i also just realized like how friggin cute would mko’s be on a trip to disney world…black lace mouse ears, i would go just so i could wear them!
Janell Necole
April Fools? LOL! soooo funny!
hillary
i think they look absurd on anyone but a bunny.
Elle
Lol no thank you.
Those would be super cute for halloween but otherwise I can’t see them being wearable in every day fashion. This is one of those wierd trends that will fade away in a couple weeks
Jojo
I think they should stick to the ‘inspiration’ for it, just the fabric … the full out ears thing doesn’t do it for me …
Caitlin
Halloween only, or possibly the LV one in the link for a fun night out, I like that it looks more bow-ish and not totally rabit. I’m not really a big fan of this trend though I must say, even if it goes more maintstream I think I’ll sit this one out!
Tomomi
Its hyper cute but not wearable for normal day or night out. Maybe if it was my birthday and I was out being a bit silly with some girlfriends I would wear it, but it will TOTALLY be a toned down version…. maybe i would wrap a scarf around my head and stick the ends up a bit? I dunno…
la petite fashionista
mk&a look adorable! i would do it fo halloween as a high fashion bunny or something haha
Laura
I agree that this is a trend that only works on the runway, and is not practical for every day wear.
Also, I was wondering if you are still taking applications for a fall intern?
Ashley
I think it would be so sweet, but unfortunately I don’t think I could pull it off. But the LV headband for 250? I could seriously make that for a dollar.
P. Manikin
This might be wearable if you are an actor in Disneyland, otherwise this is abolutely not wearable in my not so humble opinion. If a designer comes up with stuff like that i always coem to think that he ran out of ideas…
Christina
I think the LV hairband looks like something you easily could do yourself. But i do think its a cute trend, but i would also use the more toned down version, than the huge bunny ears.
Daisy
Of course, i have to agree with everyone else.
This is very cute and adorable, and I wpuld totally wear them, but….only to for Halloween or my birthday party. So not for class, though.
Tara from My Little Fashion Finds
I think the bunny ears are cute, but I don’t think they’re wearable in the real world. I would only wear them on Halloween. Possibly to a party, depending on what kind of party it is (definitely to a costume party).
When it gets closer to Halloween, I think I’m going to post some bunny costumes with cute bunny ears in my fashion blog.
Haley
My first reaction was “what the hell?” I’m no stranger to wearing odd, animal-inspired headwear choices (my preferred winter hat is a fleece, panda-inspired hat, complete with ears) but I think these bunny ears might be a little *too* big and obvious. I like the mesh version the Olson twins are wearing, and I can see them POSSIBLY working, but otherwise this is probably just for people that REALLY want to stand out.
Cara
These aren’t good for editorials, fashion parties, or anything but Halloween or an Easter costume party! These are a fluke of altogether too much creativity, and anyone who wears them in the real world other than as a costume ought to have her head examined. They connote the trashy, the infantile, and the lunatic all at once.
Michelle
Very cute, ver costume-y. Not to wear on a normal basis. I actually like the BIG BOW idea. If it were a bow instead of bunny ears, this would definitely be wearable to a fashionable party. Just my opinion!
Madonna does look smokin’ in her bunny ears though!
Amanda
I love these, they are so cute. I would totally wear a pair, though probably not to class or even on campus.
Kimi
Why not? I don’t think I would go huge, but I think they’re adorable and fun.
Leah
I “lmao”ed when I read this! Why on earth would anyone wear this if it weren’t Halloween?!
elly
I WOULD TOTALLY WEAR THEM to a party bcouse mi frends r mor of the joke around tipe but never ever to school but maybe………
Kortnee
I would wear a smaller pair, but goodness, not that tall. Way too big.
Jackie
Seriously? Bunny ears? You’re kidding, right?
Wow.
Grace
nah, no way.
Holly
Lmao. On halloween, but that’s it…
Mailee
I am DYING to own a pair. No joke. I would wear it all the time. The large ones are a little much considering they’re about half my height, but the headband? Seriously, I’m either saving up or figuring out a way to DIY this.
erin
I think these are so cute. In a professional setting very inapproperiate but I think around campus randomly to throw people off these would be cute. The price a LOT to high seriously go to the theater department and ask one of the costume crew to make them for a few bucks. This would be really cute for people who cosplay or attend conventions.
