Would You Wear… Cutout Leggings?
Cutout leggings have been everywhere lately. While leggings that show off some skin are sexy and fashion-forward, are they too much for every day? You be the judge in this week’s edition of Would You Wear.
Over the past few months, stars like Lady GaGa and Rihanna have been spotted rocking leggings with holes in them. The look is sexy and reminiscent of the ripped jeans trend we’ve seen so much this season. Rihanna’s leggings are the famous Rodarte thigh-high cutouts, while Lady GaGa’s leggings pictured above look like a DIY job, (although they might be a Christian Siriano creation – he makes most of her stage costumes.) Cutout leggings were also on the runways at Alexander Wang (pictured center above).
Personally I think this look is hot, but I don’t know if these leggings are really real-life wearable. The cutouts might not be so flattering unless your legs are super tan and toned like Rihanna’s, and they could definitely look trashy if worn the wrong way. They could work for a night out, but I don’t think I’d wear them during the day.

Hmm I don’t think it’s for me! I think Rihanna’s & Lady Gaga’s leggings are fugly, but the Rodarte ones are hot. It really isn’t that wearable though! Unless you’re going to some very fashion-forward nightlife event.

I have to agree, I hate Rihanna’s leggings because I feel that they look trashy, and Lady GaGa’s leggings are just a big NO. But the center ones are cute.

Worn like this, it gives a “rocker chick” look. Done wrong, however, and you either look like a hooker or someone from the 90s. Ick to either.

I agree, I like the middle picture but not the other ones. I’m not sure if they would work for everyone, but they look good if done right.

I love the ones from lookbook and the ones in the middle are the best. I don’t think i could pull it off though. I can’t even pull off ripped jeans..hahaha

yes, i can definitely see myself working a pair similar to those in the middle– it really depends on the cut, and i hate the cuts of rihanna’s and lady gaga’s. not entirely sure how i’d wear it yet, but i’d love to experiment.

I like the picture christie posted… worn that way, it IS cute.
But mostly, i think they look kind of slutty. I mean i think its all about balance in fashion and if you are already wearing something as skin-tight as leggings, maybe you SHOULDN’T be putting holes in them. i mean we can already see your body, without the holes.
Idk, i wouldn’t wear it. I’d rather bare some legs with a cute dress.
Maybe its just me but I’d rather show my bare legs with a mini dress thats modest up top. Or a low cut dress with tights/ leggings under it, or just a little longer than usual. Balance, balance, balance. =]

I wouldn’t be caught dead wearing any of the leggings pictured. It is one of those trends that will quickly become outdated. Also they are not practical for everyday life.

I like them on the Alexander Wang model, but I think Rhianna and Lady Gaga wore them TERRIBLY!
I might consider wearing some, but definitly not with such short shorts or skirts, and probably not with anything other than a nice pair of heels.

I like the Wang model’s the best…however, I’m not sure if I’d wear them. I mean, I think that in certain situations they’d work great, but I’ve always felt that, by a certain point, you should just make the decision of leggings vs bare legs. It just starts to look trashy or a little S&M. However, my legs are also terribly pale, so perhaps it would look better on a more tanned girl.

I have to say I wouldn’t wear them, I think they look a little sloppy, I wouldn’t wear a pair of stockings with a run in them, and I wouldn’t wear any other article of clothing with holes, leggings are no exception.

i think they are definitely wearable.
i have some laceleggings, which are obviously different from cut out leggings, but i make them work by using everyday tunics.
you cant have a silk tunic or something with them unless its like for a night outt.

Anyway, the ones in the middle aren’t so bad, but personally I wouldn’t wear anything Lady GaGa wears. Shes way too out there for the average woman’s fashion. I usually love Rihanna’s clothing style, but I hate those hooker leggings!
As long as they don’t have than many holes, and the holes don’t look DIY ripped, they would look half-decent.

I don’t see myself wearing these cutout leggings even though I think they are hot. I don’t really like Rihanna’s leggings at first I thought they were boots. And only Lady Gaga can pull off anything she wears.

personally i love the cut out leggings. I love the way lady gaga and rihanna are wearing them and the Alexander Wang not so much. I think that they are a night out kind of thing and you could pear them whith a short dress. <3

usually i can like most trends to some degree, but this one really jsut doesnt do it for me! rihanna is gorgeous and everyone knows that her leggings fit in with her rocker style, but anyone else walking on the street would look soo trashy in those! the middle picture looks good, but to me that it more of a runway look that a trend to run with on a regular day. and lady gaga…love her songs but those leggings are hideous!!! i hate using the word trashy but it totally fits here. however, i dont mind when leggings have little tears in them like destroyed jeans do. i think someone posted an example from lookbook, and i liked that picture because its a simple, more realistic take on this trend.

I’m going to disagree with the majority here-I think that Lady Gaga’s and the middle pair are absolutely awful. Lady Gaga’s look like they were eaten by moths, and the model in the middle looks like she has tape or strips of cloth wrapped around her legs, rather than leggings. Rhianna, however, manages to pull it off. I don’t think any person walking down the street could, but her rocker-chick look, combined with the fact that the pattern is not random and they’re not full-length leggings, give her the ability to pull it off.
That said, I would never be caught dead in these. Ever.

And keep in mind, that the pictures shown above are of celebrities who CAN’T dress themselves outside of their costumes. So obviously, not a good idea. And, why would you waste money on those anyway, you’re already paying for less of tights, but why make it tacky and why would you pay more for MUCH less?

I would definitely wear them. They’re so cute but I think I prefer cutout tights more than leggings. Cutout and ripped tights seem more organic.

i have a pair from wet seal
and they’re way way cuter than any of those pictured above
they only have slight horizontal rips in the front and the back is solid like regular black leggings and i wear them with a casual v-neck thats slightly below my hips or a tunic and i always get compliments
if worn right this can be a cute trend
