Would You Wear… Clogs?

Like every girl, I love me some Chanel. So naturally, I was excited to see everything that Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld had to offer us for the new Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. And boy, did Karl deliver. Frilly dresses? Check. Cute tights? Check. Classic French sophistication with a twist? Check. Clogs? Che-Wait, what? Yes, you read that clearly, clogs.

Chanel’s 2010 Spring/Summer collection featured high heeled clogs in colors like black, white, and red. Sometimes they were adorned with florals, studded, worn with tights, or mixed with lace. Surprised? Don’t be, fashion recycles itself-a lot. Clogs are back (thunderclap)- with a vengeance.

Karl Lagerfeld isn’t the only one embracing clogs. In fact, celebrities like the fashion forward Ashley Olsen and 90210 star Shenae Grimes have been spotted rocking clogs on the streets as early as this summer. So don’t be too surprised if you start seeing your friends clip-clopping down the streets in them too. It’s not a joke. It’s fashion.

Thoughts?

I don’t know about you, but I’m not really looking forward to this trend. Some styles stay in the past for a reason (parachute pants, mullets, scrunchies, etc.), you know?

For the time being, I’m going to pass. But then again, who knows? Sometimes trends take time to catch on. One day I may find a pair of cute ones that go well with something in my closet. After all, I was pretty skeptical about boyfriend jeans for a while, but now I think they’re cute.

What do you guys think? Are you going to be rocking this look anytime soon? Let me know in the comments! I’m really interested in your thoughts on this trend!

I don’t think I would wear clogs. They look too chunky and heavy.

I think it depends completely on what the clogs look like. I always used to avoid the shoes because they were the same shoes I wore when I was 8, and that was the 90’s. But recently, my mom bought a pair of these, and I must admit, I really like them. If it’s styled like how shenae grimes clogs are in your picture, or the ones by chanel, I think they’re perfectly stylish.

Just try and avoid a cheesy dutch girl look..lol

this just solidified the fact that one should never throw anything away. ever.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY hate clogs. They are the chunkiest, heaviest, ugliest shoes that you can ever buy in my opinion.

I absolutely HATE clogs lol! I would never wear them!

They remind me of crocs simply because of the shape. And I hate crocs. I actually used to own a pair of clogs in middle school and only wore them once. Not a fan. They are so clunky and heavy to walk around in. And, as seen in the first pic, they have a tendency to look a size too small at the heel of the foot when they feel as though they are the perfect size.

i will not be wearing clogs, simply because of a bad clog-related experience when i was a kid. Let’s just say walking down stairs in heavy, clunky clogs is not so easy as it may seem. Ouch…

I definitely agree with kristi on this one. I grew up wearing clogs and they were my absolutely my favorite shoes on the planet. I would have no problem with them coming back in style, but it would certainly depend on the look of the individual shoes themselves. If they were being sold at Babies-R-Us, on one hand, I wouldn’t be the first in line to buy, but at Chanel? I really like the idea of those.
So, yes, I’ll probably be rocking the “heavy, clunky” clogs this season.

Hmmm maybe I should steal my mom’s clogs when I go home for Thanksgiving :) The last time I wore clogs, was before my sister’s wedding (my shoes were wayyyy to painful) and I almost walked down the aisle still wearing them!

Clogs = cute with casual looks, not with bridesmaid dresses ;)

I would not wear them in a boat or wear them with a goat! Forget it. No clogs for me. I’d rather be caught wearing crocs and double denim..at the same time.

    October 12th, 2009 at 5:08 pm

Ummm this is probably the first time I’ve ever hated something Lagerfeld sent down the runway….but are you kidding me?! ATROCIOUS!!!!!!! But Shenae’s are kind of cute. I like the heel. But I wont catch on to this trend. Clogs are too loud & clunky. & if I do, I’ll eat my glads(: haha.

Being petite and thin, clogs are a no-no. I’ll keep my stiletto heeled booties and gladiator flats, but I’ll skip on the clippy cloppy clogs. this is one trend that won’t grace my feet ever again (yes I wore them when i was a kid too)

i dont know how ill feel about this next spring, but those girls look like they are wearing winter shoes in warm weather, not a good look!

    October 12th, 2009 at 5:35 pm

well for me I bought a pair a couple seasons ago only wore them a couple of times they were very uncomfortable to walk in

  17. 17
    October 12th, 2009 at 5:39 pm

To be entirely honest, I had a pair of clogs back when I was 10-11, and I loved them until I grew out of them. They were light, denim, well-fitted and had little stitched patterns in them. If I /absolutely/ had to wear a pair, it’d be those again.

But nononononoo, pass, I say. D8

It’s just the way the look … and how they’re missing a back.

I wore clogs for a bit in high school and I never found a way to make them work. I felt like I walked really heavy and clunky – there was no way to be graceful in clogs. Maybe it will take a while to warm up to them, once more style have been released but for now I say pass.

    Hate it. That’s all.

  21. 21
    October 12th, 2009 at 6:15 pm

I would’nt wear clogs dead to a dogfight even the so called “cute” ones look like someone started making a cute shoe then hacked of the top with a table saw and shoved a foot in there. Ugly ugly ugly.
This is deffinetly one of those REALLY awful trends that makes me want to turn off my computer for a few weeks untill people start wearing normal foot wear again.

I wear 1 of my 2 pairs of Danskin clogs ~5 days each week b/c they’re the most comfortable shoes for class, lab, and weather (MN), I’m tall and don’t need more than an inch to make my jeans look nice, and they look like boots anyways b/c my jeans cover them up. Plus they’ve lasted me 3 years already. I don’t care if I look like a gardner :)

    Gross.

    October 12th, 2009 at 7:40 pm

Those leather studded clogs by Lagerfeld are absolutely hot, so I would probably wear a similar [but cheaper] pair for the next summer, but those used in the celebrities’ reference photos are simply horrible! Gosh, God spare us from similar atrocities!!!

  25. 25
    October 12th, 2009 at 8:09 pm

i’m not really into the high heeled clogs, but i love the flat clogs from american eagle – however, i would ONLY wear them UNDER pants! clogs are not sandals! they are wintery and should be worn with pants that cover them :)

Awesome post, Kim! I definitely had a pair of sweet clogs in middle school, but I’m not sure if it’s a style I would resurrect! Shenae looks adorable in hers, though, so maybe it will catch on!

  27. 27
    October 12th, 2009 at 9:22 pm

They tend to be hella comfy if you get the right kind. I would only wear with something super-cute and girly to avoid looking frumpy and gross. They have to be worn with fashiony stuff to look any kind of stylish.

  28. 28
    October 12th, 2009 at 9:39 pm

    No. Just NO. Gross.

  29. 29
    October 12th, 2009 at 9:51 pm

So…. I don’t think I’d wear the high-heeled ones, but I happen to think that the FLAT ones (as sold on the American Eagle website) are super cute. I have 2 pairs and I practically live in them until the inevitable Canadian snowfall. Then, they become obviously impractical.

Nope. I don’t like them. They’re too clunky and uncomfortable!

I just love the thunderclap sentence! Haha.

I agree with you about clogs. They’re not particularly flattering, either, especially Shenae Grimes’s pair.

I would love to see an article about moccasins, though, and how to wear them.

  32. 32
    October 12th, 2009 at 10:54 pm

So ugly! I think we all know better than to be victims of this trend.

Yeah I have to agree with the majority and say I would never wear those things.

    Ugly, clunky, and annoying! lol

    October 13th, 2009 at 3:14 am

While clogs are not my favorite footwear, I don’t see why this is such an unbelievable joke. The high-heeled ones are sort of cute, and I certainly don’t think of a clog as only a winter shoe. I think the only reason this trend is startling is because so many of us wore clogs as children, and may only recently have memories of getting over what we saw as their geekiness in high school. Seriously, though, it’s all about styling, attitude, and what you wear the with. These could work. Admittedly, my anklebones haven’t really missed clogs since I gave away my last pair…

The clogs actually look nice, and I don’t mind making a tune as a walk, that’s always fun. Hehe. What I love most of all is that blue dress!

  43. 43
    October 13th, 2009 at 9:56 am

I actually don’t mind clogs. they are comfy in my opinion. I only get white mountain brand because they are not heavy, the bottom is actually a light weight foam, but not so much like the material crocs are made out of. Clogs though should only be worn with jeans and should have a heel but not a wedge.

You have a great writing style! I enjoyed reading this A LOT and thought I should comment!

And clogs- I don’t think so! I’m still trying to supress the images in my head from wearing them last time round (I must have been about 12)!

    2. they’re UGLY.

maybe if they can be made to somehow look like wedges more than clogs, then maybe they’d be cute

I use to wear clogs when I was in middle school, so I think I am going to pass on this trend. lol

I like how this article followed the articles on retro dresses and outfits inspired by almost famous…we seem to have a pattern going here!
There are lots of items in the fashion world that I feel drawn to precisely because they’re so difficult to pull off and are widely reviled. Clogs are one of these items. I have a sort of nostalgic affection for them but I’m kind of a a loss to figure out how to make them wearable with more than one type of outfit. I used to have a chunky heeled pair that was pretty cute under flared jeans and retro inspired tops, but I’m pretty bored with that look nowadays.
I agree that they look pretty terrible on most people—unflattering if you have skinny legs, equally so if you have thick or curvy legs. I don’t find they work with skirts, leggings or skinny jeans.
So I’ll let the Karl Lagerfields play around with the look for a season, enjoy watching the experimentation from afar, and take on some different fashion risks.

Aww I remember I used to be obsessed with Doc Martins. The second picture is adorable, though, the way she paired the clogs with her outfit. Otherwise, I’d have to pass.

I totally agree clogs SUCK … they are horribly uncomfortable and personally i think that they are the ugliest unflattering shoes. And they are so freaking loud. This is not going to be a trend I wear.

I wore clogs throughout elementary and part of middle school school. They were my favorite type of shoes. I even wore them during winter. I don’t think I’ll start to wear them again though. They aren’t the most comfortable things…

for a man the women in clogs are so cute and sexy. Great chanel make so great things.

YES I WOULD! I would do anything for a pair of those, they’re to die for!!

  64. 64
    March 17th, 2010 at 8:53 pm

If any clogs, I would wear the high-heeled ones. So much better than the flat ones, which look like ugly versions of slippers. They make your legs look short and fat.
I have a pair of clogs (vintage from my grandmother, genuine leather, soo comfy) but I only wear them on my patio or around the outside of the building.

Still can’t find anything to wear them with that makes them look … right, though.
