Would You Wear… Bright Orange Clothing & Accessories?

Orange on the runway
Orange seen on the runways at J. Mendel, Marc by Marc Jacobs and Lacoste.

Color trends have a way of gradually fading in and out of style with the seasons. And the most recent “it color”, according to the New York Times, is bright orange. If you think about it, it makes sense that orange would be hot this season – remember last spring’s orange lipstick trend? Orange clothing is the next logical step towards market saturation.

While browsing through the Spring/Summer 2011 Ready-to-Wear collections, I could immediately see why the Times picked this shade – gone were the typical spring pastel shades. Instead, white seemed to be vastly popular, often accented by pops of bright orange.

Personally, I cannot wait to see where this trend goes. While I don’t own anything orange and I certainly can’t recall seeing any of my friends rocking it recently, I do believe this is a color bandwagon I’m about to jump on.

In case you’re looking for a simple way to mix orange into your wardrobe now…

Orange Sample Outfit 1
Product Information: Top – Modcloth, Jacket – BlueFly, Leggings - Tilly’s, Shoes – Juicy Couture, Hat – Ruche, Earrings – Zappos

Or why not try some orange Converse?

Orange Sample Outfit 2
Product Information: Cardigan – Dorothy Perkins, Skirt – Modcloth, Shoes – Zappos, Bag – Dorothy Perkins, Bangle – Zappos, Bracelet – Zappos, Tights – Bergdorf Goodman

If the above options aren’t your taste and you’re still curious about trying orange but don’t want to invest in any pieces quite yet, why not try some coral nail polish or tangerine lipstick? The options are endless so get creative!

What are your thoughts on bright orange for spring?

Would you wear this color? Do you own any bright orange pieces? If so, how do you wear them? Do you think you’ll be rocking this trend in spring? Or are you gonna pass on this one? Make sure to leave a comment below!

I have never worn anything orange don’t think I own anything that’s orange either but I’m not opposed to giving this trend a try. I might just try out a top or something simple to start of though.

I personally love orange. I have been wearing this colour for 6 years now, and people are always amazed at my ability to find orange clothing. It is a great stand-out colour, and as someone who is a huge fan of bright colours, this is one of the best. People never really got into orange before and so for a long time it was my calling card, if people saw someone wearing orange, or something orange, they automatically thought of me! I am happy that it is finally going to be an it colour. I think I see a lot of friends robbing my closet soon ;)

I Don’t like the color orange, but the models and the outfits are all pretty cute! I’m not a fan of wearing sneakers, so I’d wear brightly colored flats instead. I feel like this color would work if you had darker skin or just a tan! :)

I LOVE bright orange and I wear it quite a bit! Of course, I’m also a San Francisco Giants fan, so orange and black are a major staple of my wardrobe during baseball season. However, I have found creative ways to incorporate it my work wear as well.

In high school, my friends and I came up with the “Orange Theory.” It always seemed that boys paid more attention to us when we wore orange. Something to think about. :)

I have an orange pebbled leather Marc Ecko bag from this past year, it’s the first designer bag i’ve owned and I love it so much! I usually wear a lot of neutrals and it works for summer and winter and everything in between. It’s a nice way to accessorize without trying.

I’ve always loved orange clothes and accessories but I struggle with knowing what colors to wear with orange.. I’m usually scared of looking too much like a Halloween decoration!

I go to the University of Tennessee and have a ton of orange for football games and tailgating. I’m glad to see I can rock my orange this spring outside of Knoxville and be on trend!

I personally love the color orange. I only have one shirt in orange, though and it’s not that cute. I enjoyed this aricle. I do have something to say regarding this whole website. If it would be possible – I know you have college life and all these other things keeping you busy – I’ve noticed the number of articles posted a day has gone down by a lot. Where there used to be four-five each day, now there are only two or sometimes one new one. This dissapoints me somewhat when I look forward to reading the new articles each day and find that there are only two. It drenches my excitement, leaving me wishing it were the next day already so I can read the next one. I am not a very patient person, and I have tried to stay away for a week so at least there is a significant amount of new articles that I can read, but it is not really possible for me to stay away. I still love the website, just thought I’d tell you that. :)

i think it looks good with darker hair and darker skin–even just a tan is better. i don’t love this on pale people, but at the same time i totally love orange and own some myself.

Given UM colors are green and bright orange, there’s A LOT of orange on campus. I love the color, but it’s a little too common around here, so I’ll pass, unless I happen to be in a different city

Love the outfits and the color!
I would definitely wear the first one!

CollegeFashion should install a like-love-dislike button on their outfits. It would be fun to see everyone’s opinions without having to sift through all of the comments.

    Just a thought..

Last summer I found out that orange clothing is not only for soccer games (I’m from The Netherlands) but also is a very bright colour that makes you happy when you’re wearing it. When you wear it with neutrals like brown it doesn’t look so cheap anymore.

Bright orange… Doesn’t really sound fitting, but maybe other orange-ish tones could work (I’m just thinking about for me). I guess it’s something to be seen…

I love orange!!! Mainly because I’m a Bay Area sports fan & I love my SF Giants! But I incorporate their sports wear into my everyday outfits & it’s very easy to dress them up or keep it casual. I’m also happy that there are more sports gear & accessories for women to wear, so I switch out my teams here & there without having to sacrifice fashion.

I love the 2nd outfit, but the first….? Not so much. Leggings as pants is a crime against humanity, and the earrings (which are cute) with the hat (which is cute) together look very… gangster-wannabe. It’s just costumey.

I LOVE BRIGHT ORANGE! I always want to pair it with black but hold myself back from doing it because it reminds me of Halloween =/ But your first outfit showed me I can do it with style!

Orange is not my color. My mom looks great in orange and she loved to dress me in yellow, orange, brown and gold as a kid which look great on her and look terrible on me. Conversely, black and pink looks awful on her and great on me. It’s a matter of personal style, if you can rock it, go for it!

I go to UT Knoxville. Our colors are Orange and White (as everyone knows). I still refuse to wear orange though, lol. I just don’t think I can pull it off with my skin tone and hair color.

I love orange. Even though I am somewhat pale and blonde, I just love bright colors. I have an orange skirt with a green pattern on it that my Grandma made from Thai silk. I love it! I usually wear it with fairly neutral tops and shoes, but once I wore it with a green top in the same shade as the pattern. That looked really good.

i always find it interesting how certain colors become trendy – like with other fashion trends there seems to be some sort of cycle. i remember orange being the “it” color about 5 or 6 years ago.

    i suppose it makes sense for spring/summer – it’s such a happy color :D

I love this color! I’ve always thought a dash of pop in your wardrobe is definitely a must and this color is perfect, especially with spring right around the corner. I would have also accepted lime green.

Both the runaways looks and the outfits created by you ae really cute! I personally dont like orange and I don’t think I own anything in that color – I am a summer beauty type, so it’s not the most flattering one on me, but if someone has the same problem and actually likes orange, I guess it’s safe to wear it on the lower body type. I’m surprised how good it looks with mint (love that bag btw).

I love Orange! I can’t wear the peaches or pale colors because they wash me out but I am fair with dark hair and totally rock orange and in fact I have on a bright pumpkin color shirt on right now. Glad to see it’s an in color but at the same time these trends can become overwhelming when everything is that color.

I absolutely love oranges and yellows! That skirt by Marc Jacobs is magnificent, now if only I could find something similar. :)

I actually do wish I had more clothes in orange, especially since that’s one of my school’s colors. Maybe with this trend I’ll be able to get more. Thanks for the post! :D
