Would You Wear… a Removable Collar?

We’ve all worn collared pieces. Cute button-ups can be counted among the classic staples in nearly all of our wardrobes. But now for something completely different: a collar… without a shirt attached?
I’ve started seeing detached collars all over my favorite fashion blogs and even spotted one on campus recently. My instant reaction was a big no, but they’ve started to grow on me. Think of how many ways you could wear them! In essence, they’re just cloth necklaces, right?
Personally, I adore the t-shirt and collar look. It adds a touch of class to an otherwise mundane look. But a detachable collar could also be perfect for a fun spring tea party (don’t you have tons of invites to them this season?), as seen in the sample outfit I created below.

Product Information: Collar – Modcloth, Top – Topshop, Skirt – Topshop, Shoes – ASOS, Hat – Zara, Earrings – Zappos
So what do you think about detached collars?
Are these too weird or ultra-adorable? How would you wear them? Do you think these can be dressed up and dressed down? Do you like the sample outfit? Leave a comment and let me know!

I love removable collars! I have a great vintage one that’s embroidered with pearls. It’s a really fun addition to any outfit in my opinion!

It’s too theatrical for me. I’m not a fan of the doll-like style. Only some girls can pull it off. Personal I’d rather do tough grungy look than this.

Yes! I definitely definitely would!! Especially when I wear the same clothes a lot it can make an old outfit look new xo
Babs
Cool!!! Where can I get that in South Africa??

I also have a cute seed pearl peter pan collar necklace from Urban. I love it, although I do find that I overlook it most of the time and end up going with other necklaces.

Probably not, mostly because those kinds of collars aren’t really my style – but they’re an interesting idea though. At first I thought it seemed just too weird but I guess it makes sense, it would really add variety to your wardrobe!
Annie
Nope, definitely not my style, but i’m sure some people could rock them!

Actually I’m going to make one when I get home from studying abroad! My high school uniform had a white peter pan collar and I’m going to cut it off and make my own detachable version a la P.S. I Made This (with her blessing, too!).

Además, this is totally up my alley. I have a skirt that looks just like the one in the outfit (but blue, from H&M), a pink version of the rose earrings, and a straw sunhat and fresh white blouse are on my to-buy list. The only thing I’d change is the shoes, ’cause I usually wear flats (since I’d switch the pink skirt for blue I’d wear pink flats instead!).

I think it’s kinda weird! I have no idea how I would wear that! Not really that into the outfit either
Milana
To me they’re fun and pretty :) I haven’t worn one though, but would definitely do it! Cute outfit!

A few weeks ago I was cleaning out my closet and found a cardigan that I never wore. I remembered buying it because I loved the beaded collar but I could never figure out a way to wear it. So I just cut off the collar, saved the rest as scrap fabric, and have been wearing the collar as a “necklace” of sorts. Till today I’d never even heard of a removable collar! (LOL now I feel happy because I feel like I predicted a trend . . . although I technically didn’t. Don’t you love those moments??) :)

I love how they look (especially the lacey or crochet ones!) but I dont think I could pull it off – I have a pretty serious face and I feel like it would make me look silly…
Tessa
I love it! I’m already thinking of the shirts that I would pair this with… :)

Yes I would! I think the Peter Pan collars are so cute and chic, and can dress up any outfit :)

I’m torn on this one. I think some collars look great when they’re obviously meant to be part of a blouse or dress. It’s not generally part of my aesthetic, but I’m resolved to try a little bit of everything. As long as it’s downplayed, I think it could be pulled off well without looking to costume-ish.

I bought a dress that came with a removable collar and I love it. I can wear the dress by itself, with the collar or with the collar over a white button down. It’s so versatile because it fits all different occasions. Great trend
Natalia
I’d rather wear a shirt with its collar, It would be annoying putting on and off the collar every time…
Sarah
I have mixed feelings on this… I like the street style picture, and though I can understand the appeal, I rather purchase a simple peter pan collar.

These were in a miu miu collection a few seasons ago and there’s tons of tutorials on how to make one yourself, so I don’t see the point in buying one.

I love detachable collars!! I just finished making a white one!! :)
