Would You Wear… a Pailette Party Dress?

If you are one of those girls (like me!) who looks forward to the holiday season especially for the many opportunities to dress up, take note of the latest trend in party dresses: pailettes.

Essentially, pailettes are oversized sequins or – more bluntly – large, shiny plastic discs. A dress covered in pailettes adds another dimension to any usual party look. After all, how chic does Lauren Conrad look in her pailette dress (above center)?

Although I’m a big fan of this trend, the only downside I see is the difficult care of a dress like this – I can imagine the pailettes could easily catch on something and tear off if they aren’t sewn on well. Also, you can just forget about washing it! These babies are definitely dry-clean only.

Personally, I think the classiness of this sure-to-turn-heads party look overrules any high-maintenance care issues. I personally cannot wait to rock one of these frocks at a holiday get-together. What are your thoughts?

What do you think of this trend?

Will you be wearing a pailette party dress this season? Do you think this look will quickly go “out”? How would you wear it? Leave a comment and let us know what you think.

I LOVED that shoot with Emma Watson. So chic. I’d wear the dress if I could get it at a less expensive price!

I do love pailette dresses, but I’m not sure if they’re cost-friendly.

The ones I’ve seen are highly expensive or cheaply made. I don’t think that I’d wear the dress enough to reason a high price tag. Although, I am that girl who wears a dress one or two times rather than constantly rocking it.

And the ones that are budget-friendly, like you said, the pailettes fall off and you’re left with odd gaps.

What worries me about these kind of dresses are the discs getting bent when you sit down…I have a sequin dress and I’m always shifting and adjusting in fear of ruining it when I sit, and I imagine this would be even worse…

I think these dresses are really tacky. No one past the 7th grade should wear sequins in my opinion.

I saw these in Elle for PRADA, and loved them such a unique twist on party dresses, defiantly takes glitter to the next level!

I’m all about sequins, but this oversize version looks more like fish scales than something glitzy. It also reminds me of a craft project gone wrong. I think the verdict for me is no thanks!

I love this trend, but I’m not big into partying- probably won’t be buying into it.

I recently inherited a SUPER ’80s, bubblegum pink pailette dress, similar in style to the red one you’re showing, and I could not think of where or how I would wear it. This outfit idea is awesome though, and I can’t wait to try to rock this dress for the winter parties!!!

i love this. they all look like fish. thankfully, i happen to love fish. i have no intention of participating in the fish scale/armor plated look for myself, but i can see the aesthetic appeal, especially in the last dress and the one emma watson is wearing.

The dress is really cute but I’d prefer it without sleeves. I definitely love this trend, I think the sequins look great on a skirt or a jacket, so many outfit possibilities!

I’m sorry, I just wanna tell you that this kind of dress can’t be washed in a dry-clean machine. The high temperature will destroy the plastic discs… ps: I don’t speak english very well, so I’m sorry for the mistakes.
