Would You Wear… a Leopard Print Coat?

It seems that one of this season’s hottest takes on outerwear comes in the form of lovely leopard print coats. Easily paired with a classic all-black ensemble, leopard print coats are definitely for the girls that want to make a statement with their cool weather attire. This is why fashion-forward celebs like Alexa Chung and Mary-Kate Olsen have been seen out and about in the cozy trend.

Traditionally a symbol of luxury, sexiness and glamour, the leopard print coat is also popular because of its surprising versatility. It works well with casual ensembles for a day of shopping, like Nicky’s coat, but also packs enough glamour for a special night out, complete with cat-eye makeup like Kate Moss.

Here are some current retail leopard print coats (all faux fur, of course):

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of the leopard print coats–something about them reminds me of their extravagant, real fur counterparts that carry a snobbier, “luxury is only for the rich” sort of feel.  But, I must admit, I think Kate Moss looks absolutely envious in her coat, so this is one of those trends I’m a bit on the fence about.

What do you think? Can normal college girls pull of the luxury of this coat–and will you be partaking in the trend? Let me know what you think!

I really want a leopard print coat! That’s on my Christmas list but I don’t think I’ll be getting one this year.

i don’t love this trend and wouldn’t personally wear it.
even though im sure some of the coats are quite pricey, it just looks cheap and tacky to me a la fran drescher on the nanny

I actually love this look. I don’t think I would buy one though, because on my budget coats need to be super versatile! I don’t feel like I would wear this often enough to buy it. Unless I found a REALLY good deal :)

I was hoping that someone would do a post on this! The first time I saw the trend was in the window at Lucky Brand and I thought “SO tacky, but….I love it!!!” That being said, I don’t think I could pull this off since my style is more classic and feminine. As long as the fur is faux, I think this is a great look for girls with more daring or glamourous style!

I’m personally not a fan of animal print in anything more than very small doses, so this is a no-go for me. I prefer patterns like houndstooth and plaid – my style is more classic than glamorous.

I definitely would! I’m wearing one here: http://hifashionsl.blogspot.com/2009/12/oh-weather-outside-is-frightful.html

And I definitely didn’t buy it for the extravagant look… mine is definitely faux. :)

I’m personally not a fan of animal print, but these are super popular! I think these are definitely wearable.

Before I read the post, I would have said NO!
But the jacket from Forever 21, with the bow, puts a spin on the look, and
it looks really cute for a holiday party! Problem is, that would be the only time I would wear it, so it wouldn’t get much use!

Yes, I would wear a leopard print coat. :) But I will match it with something subtle and not loud… I also won’t wear it if it’s furry.

It looks great with an all-black outfit!

Already have one in b&w from H&M, looks like #3 on the list, but slightly longer :)
It was half price anyway .. and so plushy and unexpectedly warm. Plus, wearing it with a zip-up black hoodie underneath makes it more wearable, though I’m so in love with it already I need no reason.

I dont like the leopard coats long, though. Somehow they dont look as good to me. Doesn’t have the ‘yes-i-did-this-on-purpose’ attitude that comes with shorter coats.

    I’m getting one for christmas!
It’s from River Island where I now work part time as well as college!
It’s a swing leopard print one with a gold badeg on it!
    It’s sooooo cute!

I think this trend can look juvinial and Cheetah Girl-esque however it can also look very chic and fashion forward. I think normal girls can pull off the luxury of this coat because I think with the prominance of stores like Forever 21 and Wet Seal, it’s very easy to score expensive looking items that are easy on the wallet. I might be partaking in this trend but most likely not this season because there are a lot of trends that I’m on the look out for that I like so much better.

Ooh, it’s the old-style, elite glamour aspect of these coats that makes me love them. The forever21 short, fluffy jacket or a long, shorter-furred number carry eternal class and panache. I need one of these…maybe both.
