Would You Wear… a Harness?

This week, the fashion world is abuzz about the latest trend in accessories… harnesses. Yes, you read that right.

At New York Fashion Week, harnesses could be spotted everywhere. Many notable fashion houses sent them strutting down their runways, from Herve Leger (above-right), to BCBG Max Azria (above-middle), and even Jason Wu, who normally sticks to more feminine designs.

As I saw the anxious tweets about designers showing off cool-chic harnesses this past week, I shrugged with skepticism, but after doing research, my thoughts have shifted… slightly. Some street style looks I’ve seen do look pretty cool. (See above left.) So maybe it’s possible to pull off this trend without looking like a Jenny Humphrey or Anastasia Steele ripoff.

Tame Ways to Try the Trend

If you’re not ready to wear a harness to class on campus (we don’t blame you!), but you like the edgy look, try one of these items to add a subversive feel to an otherwise-normal outfit: a lacey bralet with a hint of strappy leather detail (worn with high-waisted pants or a high-waisted skirt), a harness-like dress, or a strappy belt worn over a grecian-inspired dress.

Would you wear a harness?

Do you like the runway looks above, or are they too suggestive for you? Is there a way to bridge the gap to make this style cool and chic? How would you wear it? Leave a comment below – we want to hear your thoughts on this one!

I really like the look of harnesses on the runway, but I feel that they would be too complicated to wear on a daily basis. Still, I can admire the pictures!

No I’d be scared that I look like a horse or something.

I think it looks like a masochist fetish, like a dog or something, don’t like it at all.

I think some harnesses look pretty awesome when worn. Yeah, _some_ outfits with them can look kinky, but that can be a desired look in and of itself, inside the dungeon or out.

Yes I would wear this. I would wear it like in the third picture with the pretty dress and perhaps the second one.

I probably would wear one. But to get thebang for my buck, the look for less, I’d probably end up getting a similar-looking dress or belt, or bra top. That way it won’t be too costly if it goes out of style really fast haha.

I like the way harnesses look when done so properly, but I would definitely skip this trend. It’s best saved for the celebs on the red carpet.

I LOVE the harness trend and it has been trending for a while now (on the streets). People of the world create the inspiration that left to be inspired by others and designers.

I hope that the trend is big enough to be more accessible and in more styles and price points. One coveted brand goes for hundreds and asos.com is cheaper but it is online and i’d like to try it on.

It’s not a trend for everyone but I can’t wait to try it! :D

Not too keen on this look and I can’t imagine it translating too well into everyday life with getting some questionable looks from everyone.

Really like ones like the ASOS one! The touch of s&m doesn’t bother me at all, if anything it makes me like it way more.
