Would You Wear… a Fedora?

Mischa Barton, Lauren Conrad, and Lindsay Lohan wearing fedoras
Now I know the fedora trend is nothing new & has been around for quite a while now, but I realized I hadn’t asked you guys about it and wanted to get your take on it before the trend fizzles out this fall.
Fedora hats have been huge over the past few seasons, especially on the west coast, with every celebrity from Lindsay Lohan to Lauren Conrad getting in on the trend. They’re a great way to shield your face and scalp from the sun, and add a little bit of androgynous look to any outfit. As a bonus, bad hair days are no problem when you can just throw on a hat for instant coverage.
Personally, I’m not a hat person so haven’t been rocking fedoras this summer, but I do know some people who love this trend! If it’s your personal style, then more power to you. Fedoras will be on their way out this fall, so if you love the trend too, make sure to wear it now while it’s still summer.
So what do you think? Have you been wearing fedoras this summer? If not, would you wear one? If so, what do you wear them with? Let me know your thoughts in the comments.

i love fedoras but i’ve never had the guts to wear them. they look great on anyone though!

I’m not going to lie… right now reading that fedoras will be on the way out this fall just made my entire day. At first they were cute and different, but the fedora situation has just plain gotten out of control in LA
hillary
i was seriously just gonna ask you today if fedoras are in or out for fall. i’m pretty upset that they’re “on their way out” i haven’t jumped on the fedora trend yet but i was gonna!! i think they look really cute =/ booo
Jessica from Broke for a Month
I like fedoras…on other people. I don’t like them on myself for some reason. I have to admit I’m glad they’re going out of style. Although I do enjoy them, I’m getting sick of them.
By the way, I’m very excited bout your new series of fall shopping lists. I’ve checked this webstie probably 15 times today hoping for another article!

Actually, I’ve seen fedoras coming out in lots of stores’ Fall collections. So, I think they might be in for at least one more season! And, here in Texas, they’re just now becoming mainstream.

i actually own a straw fedora and i love it. its perfect with a cute top and short shorts and gladiators…i use it to walk around town, and go to shops and have patio brunches with my girls.
i used it when i go to the lake as well, as an accessory.. so yeah, i could definitely say it’s my top fave this season. =)

Can I wear a fedora hat with short hair? I see that people with long hair can pull it off.
Vee
I certianly would! I had a straw one but i lost it at the beach early in the spring. & then i have a wool blend one, so i haven’t been wearing one this summer, but i’ll be rocking it come fall!
-Vee
ps. i’m curious, is there a deadline for internship applications?

I am not a hat person at all. The only hat I own is a yellow one with cat ears and these big anime eyes (a Mechi hat if you’re familiar with anime). I got it at Sam Goody. Yeah.

i love fedoras and i think that they look really great on a lot of people, but i dont think i will be jumping on the bandwagon this time. although i think they are cute and love the look, they dont really fit my personality. now, i know that i have certain outfits that might be fedora-worthy, but i never feel comfortable wearing something thats not really for me just because it looks good on other people. i mean, i wear baseball hats to sporting events, but otherwise hats arent really my style.
M
I love the look, but I don’t think I can pull it off personally. I never wear hats (except in the winter, when it’s a matter of deciding whether I want my ears to literally freeze or not) and I don’t have the confidence to start with a fedora.
Linda
Dislike the look on anyone. . & wouldn’t wear it myself..
elle
I’ll go as far as a straw summer fedora, but that’s it. I used to never wear hats because they looked funny on me, but I realize it’s such a fun way to spice up an otherwise boring outfit!
Christie
I loooove this look. A straw fedora paired with a simple white tee, skinny jeans, and sandals is a simple but very cool look. It really isn’t that hard to pull this look off, when paired with the right things.
I would just say that it is best to keep the rest of the outfit really simple. If you are going to wear one, it should probably be the focus of the outfit. At least that’s my opinion.
:)

I generally LOVE it on guys. Girls…depends on the look and the girl. My friend wore a black pinstriped one with a sweet lace dress. Looked awesome!
Brooke
Oh, lol, the look my friend wore was similar to the one Mischa Barton is wearing in the picture. Totally didn’t notice that…
Calico
I wear them :P Got two black ones, one is waterproof, so it’s pretty handy come rain or shine, too. (not as geeky as it sounds, I promise xD) A hat’s a hat, I guess, and I’ll think I’ll keep wearing this fall and beyond.
Luinae
I don’t like this trend- something about it just BUGS me. I personally would never wear a fedora, something about their shape bothers me. I have a beret, a winter hat, and a beautiful wide brimmed grey vintage hat with a ribbon.
But no fedoras.
angela
Yes yes yes!!!! Love my straw fedora for summer. Will definitely try to get one that I can wear for the fall!!!!
Lena Michelle
i think fedoras are really stylish! i really wanna get one but i personally think it’s not so easy to pull it off. i feel like i’d draw quite much attention if i wear it, so id have to be dressed-up if i wear it…i don’t know, maybe that’s just me though. but i don’t think fedoras look good with too-casual style.
Eva
Absolutely! I have always loved the fedora look. I haven’t found the perfect one for me, but I can really appreciate the look on other people. It looks cute with nearly anything.
natali
Like fedoras. A lot. Although I would rather rock it during cold times. Somehow I just don’t find it quite summerish :S
Julie
Oh yeah! I looove Fedoras, they don’t look so good with the curls but they do when my hair is tied in a low ponytail.
Alaina W
I’d never even heard the word Fedora until today. Where have I been? I would TOTALLY rock this, although my personal favorite are the Fatigue and good ol’ Beanies. Girlie ones of course!!!
Keyerra
I’m not a fan of this look and I wouldn’t wear it myself. I just don’t see the appeal.
myvogue
Hat is my favorite accessory, I would absolutely wear all kind of hats and fedoras are very cute.
Thorn
Yeah I’ve had a pinstripe fedora for ages and love it!
Every time I’ve worn it I’ve got compliments about my style :)
Caroline
I have four fedoras . . . but they are all winter-weight and not straw, which would be more fitting for spring and summer. I do like them, but I think they would look better if I had that longer hippie-hair like Mischa, Lauren, and Lindsay have. My hair is shoulder-length so when I put on a hat my hair poofs out just a little bit.
I hope they make their way back into “vogue” when I have longer hair!
Zephyr
Hm, mixed opinions about fedoras. Iiinteresting…
johnieemma
I really like the beige and tan colored versions. They just look so fresh and beachy, but I don’t think they work well for winter at all. I hope the trend is still hot for next spring.
Brittany
I don’t usually like the way I look in most styles of hats but its definitely something I would try on to see if I liked it. I like the way Lauren and Mischa wear it with wavy hair. So cute!
Miranda
I adore some fedoras. But I don’t wear hats too terribly often in the summer (I live in Texas where it’s hot and breezy). I will say that my great uncle’s Bee fedora will remain in rotation come the winter months, despite the exit of trend.
Jennifer
They’re okay, but sometimes I think they’re worn horridly.
Zephyr
Vee – Didn’t see your question before! Yes, I’m done accepting internship applications. I’m going to edit the post to reflect that. I’ve received so many already that I had to cut it off. There will be more opportunities in the future though so keep checking back.
wendy
There cute but my head doesn’t look right with it on! Check out my blog and please post some comments!
nikki
I so love them even though I have curly hair but it looks so SJP
Chiara
I loooove fedoras! I have one and just bought another one! They’re dressy without a lot of work.
Tara
I absolutely LOVE fedoras! I have a huge collection of them. I’m really sad to hear that they’ll be out this fall (although I don’t believe these hats will really be “dead”, I just don’t think we’re going to see as much of them for a while).
I wore fedora hats all year round in 2008 and have also been wearing them from the beginning of 2009 to now. So yes, I’ve been sporting my fedoras this summer too. In fact, I wore a pink pinstriped fedora hat just last week when I was out in NYC (and received tons of compliments on it!).
I paired the hat I wore to the city with a pink one-shouldered top, some white shorts, and bangle bracelets. I wear my fedoras with pretty much anything, depending on the colors and patterns of them.
Regarding Vee’s question and your answer; what was the deadline for the internship? I sent my application in on July 28th. Was that too late?
Jess
I actually own one. Its black with small white stripes. Its the one of the few hats I like. Even if they weren’t in I would still wear them. They are so cute
Aury@ An Ordinary Girl's World
I love Fedoras. Always have and always will.
Cristina
I think Michael Jackson is due some credit for the trend. Before his passing Anton Yelchin was on The Jimmy Kimmel Show wearing a fedora and Jimmy told him he was dressed like Michael.
Ashley
How does this work on curly girls? Probably not a good idea, right? I love the look of fedoras, though.
Jackie
I love them, they remind me of the 40′s =D But I have never found one that fits my head *sigh*.
Melissa Kay
I think they look horrible on anyone who wears it, it’s just not flattering. I would not wear one.
Alice
I’ve been wearing Fedoras for ages, and they’re still awesome. Trend in or not, I’m keeping mine in use.
Sarah
i FINALLY found a straw fedora about a month ago that looks great on me! i hope it doesn’t go out too soon- i’m going to school on the west coast (i live on the east coast), and really want to get some more use out of my hat that i searched so long for!
Rosie
I went to see the musical “Spring Awakening” (LOVE!) this summer and there are a limited number of seats that are actually on stage. And one of the girls with an on stage seat wore a fedora. She looked utterly trendy and stupid to be wearing a hat in the theatre and it was a little disrespectful to keep it on during the entire performance. There needs to be a list of clothing etiquette.
Holly
I think fedoras look good on a lot of people, and always have. They’re classic. I don’t think they look that great on me though… I have very very short hair and hats must be carefully chosen.
James
Its funny to see some people say they will not wear them or are sad to see the trend go or they are afraid to wear them. Fedoras have been around since the 1800′s and will out last of alot of styles or acc we have now or in the future. Fedoras look great with alot of things. We have just grown use to baseball caps and things of that nature. Its all about style and making it look good for YOU not anyone else or whatever season we may be in or if its not in style to a certain group of people who decide what we wear or shouldnt wear. Come on people we know what we look good in and we shouldnt shove it in the closest because someone says its time to find another accessory or look. DOnt follow…lead for yourselves with mad confidence.
StacyB
I agree with Cristina…give MJ his credit. Since his passing these hats and military jackets have been the “latest trends.”
Maddie
Yes, definitely. They ar eunique and bring back a bit of an old fashioned feel. Plus they look awesome with trench coats
Deborah Love
I love LOVE fedora’s hats. I live in Texas and don’t see many people wear fedora’s; however, I think its a really great accessory and pops with any cute summer outfit. To bad they are not in in the fall. I will still wear with an outfit here and there. Xo
