Would You Wear… a Bib Necklace?
For this edition of Would You Wear?, let’s talk about an accessories trend that’s been going on for a little while now but has recently started to have its spark renewed – the bib necklace.
Over the past season or so, designers and celebrities alike have been bringing drama to their outfits with seriously eye-catching neckwear. The bib necklace, named for the fact that it resembles a bib, has been snapped up by celebrities like Olivia Palermo and Mischa Barton, who love the injection of glamour that such necklaces bring to any outfit.
But recently, a different variation on the bib necklace has begun to emerge from those with more romantic, soft tastes: the flowered bib necklace. Flower bib necklaces have exploded in popularity because of their feminine touch, and are an excellent alternative for girls who feel the heavy jewels of original bib necklaces are too much.
Flower bib necklaces are great because they’re often less expensive than their jeweled counterparts and are a great DIY project: all you need is a glue gun and a trip to your local craft store. Both the Glamourai and Krystal from This Time Tomorrow chronicle their DIY attempts at bib necklaces, here and here.

Personally, I love both styles of bib necklaces. They can bring either a little bit of attitude or a soft touch of femininity depending on your taste, and I love that you can either buy one in stores or make your own with fairly little effort.
What do you think?
Would you wear a bib necklace? If so, which style of bib necklace do you like better? Would you consider making your own? Leave a comment with your thoughts!!

I definitely will! Frankly I have already got a couple of such necklaces) It is my favorite trend now) And Mya, thanks a lot for such a cool post. ‘ll really appreciate for more looks how to wear this!

I would prefer flowery ones, tbh :) The ones studded with gems and whatnot seem a bit too ‘heavy’.
Good girl gone blog
Yes, yes I would. I just have to find one that I love :)

I like some of the one’s that I have seen and like how they can add something special to a simple dress. I won’t be wearing one of these necklaces anytime soon though because I have braces and even though my top ones are ceramic, flashy necklaces put too much bling near my face. LOL

I prefer something a bit me gentle around my neck. I have a very long neck and it’s one of my best features so I feel this trend overwhelms them.
No thanks!
Jackie
No way…too heavy looking

At first i thought nowayyy but they looks super cute….. guess its just one of those items that grow on you =D

This is a Would-Not for me. I feel like it’s one of those trends that could very easily turn into a case of the trend (in this case, the necklace) wearing YOU, rather than you wearing it.
I also find that it’s entirely impractical, especially for school. I’ve seen the look around campus, and I personally think it looks more foolish than anything else.
Thanks, but no thanks!

heck yes. I think the term ‘bib’ necklace and the photos coming straight off the runways evoke an image that these necklaces are to be worn at the literal size of bibs (see the monstrosity that’s taking over the model’s neck in the picture all the way at the left). I would like a bib necklace that’s Native American/aztec inspired or floral, and a whole lot more delicate. it’s a great statement necklace that will add a pop of color to an otherwise monochromatic outfit. I’m thinking of making my own, I’ve seen some good DIYs around.

yes i would! and its funny because I posted about bib necklaces this morning on my blog. my thoughts are in it, check it out: http://emilypanda.wordpress.com/2009/11/02/jewelry-and-the-search-for-the-great-pieces/

YES, they look too cute

I actually love these. Statement necklaces are the best. I pop them on alot and they make my outfit instantly complete. They’re perfect for my lazy days. I actually need to find more.

I like the floral ones, particularly the white Modcloth one you showcase. The jewels are too heavy and “blingy” or ostentatious for me.
Vivi
Not sure how I like the heavy duty bib necklaces but I definitely love the flower bib necklaces! Can you do another post on how to wear this?

Here’s a tutorial on how to make them on your own! http://www.teen.com/fashion/craft-club-sparkly-bib-necklaces/

I love the look (especially jeweled ones a la Prada), but don’t any because i’ve never seen anything like them in stores. I think i need to just go the DIY route!
it’d be the perfect look pared down with a v-neck tee and skinny jeans.

Kelly Framel (aka the Glamourai) makes some great bibs and rocks them like no other.

Try finding some bib necklaces on Etsy! You’re pretty much guaranteed you won’t find them on someone else :D

I might consider wearing bib necklaces however they might be easy to look like too much in an outfit so they could be a fashion tripwire. I like the flower bib necklace because I imagine it will make an outfit instantly irresistably feminine. I don’t think I’ll make my own because I’m not really into DIY projects, I just think if I tried to make my own clothes people would be able to tell.

bib necklaces actually make or break the entire look so choose carefully so that you won’t look like a walking Christmas tree =) If you are wearing a printed top, opt for the less detailed bib or the one that compliments the print of your top. If your wearing a plain top, it’s perfect to wear those chunky, bejeweled bib necklaces! You don’t have to be in a party to wear one because there’s so much variety to choose from! There are bibs that have floral details which are perfect for laid back summer looks =) It’s all about the styling! =)
