Would You Wear… Blue Lipstick?

Believe it or not, the reason you’ve been seeing blue lips lately has nothing to do with the cold weather. Celebs and fashion-forward girls alike are proudly rocking cobalt lips this season. Ke$ha is known for donning hers on stage and our girl RiRi was spotted out and about with a bold blue pucker recently. Even a recent Looks on Campus pick opted for a standout azure lip color on campus.

When CoverGirl released their Capitol Collection in association with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, the craze went viral. One of the models from the campaign looks incredibly chic in a deep, navy lipstick. Although the collection is about couture-style makeup, the lips alone are portrayed in a reasonably wearable way.

Although this look is not ideal for a group presentation or anything school-related, it may be a beautiful option for catching a band or going dancing. Personally, we prefer a dark, moody navy to a bright hue.

YES! It’s fun to wear and looks really good-especially on brown/black girls! I can’t wait till NYX releases their pastel collection to get a pastel blue lippy as well!

I already like to wear bold colored lipstick, so a blue color would be so fun!!

I feel the blue lipstick trend is not appropriate for everyday life. However, I think it is fun and daring for nightlife (I.e.; concerts, clubs, house parties, & vacation). I also think it is appropriate to wear around campus because I feel college is the time to make daring changes and choices.

PS: The model on the right looks absolutely gorgeous with blue lipstick!

No. I like being trendy, but that’s just too much for me.

Absolutely not! It reminds me too much of that Friends episode where Joey advertises “Ichiban for men!”

I think it looks awesome on darker skinned girls

Yes, definitely, and I already have! I’ve gotten two of Hot Topic’s Black Heart lipsticks (an aqua blue and dark purple) and mixed them together to make it into a nice rich blue. Haven’t worn that particular shade out though, but I will when I’m feeling a bit zany.

Tip: That “Hello Sailor” lipstick isn’t really blue. It comes on incredibly sheer and turns your lips a berry color.

No, but I’d like to echo Rachel and point out that the Hello Sailor lipstick does not actually go on blue. :)

I think imFine is right I don’t think this is suitable for everyday wear. I think it’s and odd time of year for this to be a trend too since Winter is usually for the bright red and berry lip colors. I also think this would be very difficult to pull off I mean I look weird in blue-based red lipsticks wearing a blue would probably make me look like I belong in the 5th Element or Aeon Flux. I think this trend is for specific styles with skintones that can handle it and personalities that are daring.

Very rare occasions when I am dancing for an “artsy-fartsy” event. I find dabbing on gold glitter over the blue really makes for interesting lip art.

I think the blue lipstick is really cool and funky-looking, but I don’t think that I would ever be caught wearing it. It is so not my style!

Definitely not! I would never wear it!

Hah, the one time I’ve seen someone wearing it was on a high school student, in uniform, at school. So I guess it was an everyday thing for her. I had a blue lipstick when I was that age, but I don’t think I ever used it. It was a frosty monstrosity with a crayon smell from Black Radiance.

I see blue lipstick as the kind of thing that’s definitely not sensible for daytime, but if you’re going out or wearing something crazy then it could really look fantastic.

I have loved unconventional colours ever since I was a kid. I am kinda hating that it is becoming a trend now. On one hand I like that it is..it will be more readily available..but I am tired of answering people if I am doing it because I saw it on Rihanna.

I agree with imfine. I dont think it is appropriate for every day life – but i would wear it to clubs or a fun party!!! My friend wears it to college and she pulls it off great, i dont think I will wear it to college but i think some people would look ok wearing it to college – great post

I think it only looks good on dark skinned girls, or if you have an overall punk/goth look… Just a bit too intense to wear with a t-shirt and jeans! I admire it on other people though.

I think it depends on your attitude. In my opinion to dismiss it as saying it’s not appropriate as everyday isn’t the viewpoint of everyone. Some people love wearing bright colors on their lips, red is just as daring and people wear it everyday. That may seem not appropriate for everyday, but only “special occasions” but to others it seems fine. There are those who wear smokey eyes, but to others they would only wear it at parties or clubs.

I think if you want to wear whatever, then that’s fine! It’s not like people are forced to look at your face. However in a professional environment, then I don’t think it’s appropriate. It can depend on a person’s job or what is going on that day that can seem appropriate.
I think it’s a personal choice, and if a person can wear it with confidence then more power to them!

    Just my two cents :)
