Would You Wear… Baggy (faux) Leather Pants?

High-end inspiration: 1. Vince via Neiman Marcus, 2. Rebecca Minkoff F/W ’13 via ELLE, 3. Theory via Shopbop
The latest runway shows have confirmed it: The leather pants and leather leggings of fashion weeks past have evolved. From rocker-chic to casual-cool, (faux) leather pants have become looser and more trouser-like. These baggy styles are undeniably effortless and certainly trendy, but we have to wonder… are baggy leather pants college-wearable?
We are a little torn about the staying power of this style. On one hand, we don’t see leather leggings going “out” anytime soon, so this style does make sense. However, baggy leather trousers seem a lot trickier to wear than their legging counterparts. (And, okay, do they give anyone else bad ’90s flashbacks?) This could definitely be one of those trends we look back on while asking, “what was I thinking?”
Would you wear baggy leather pants?

There is something about this that makes it look like you’ve wrapped trash bags around your legs. Not a fan.
Jessica
I personally think that it really depends on the style of the pants. I love love love the pants in the first picture (more like harem pants) but the other two I’m not too crazy about.

This is one of those styes that I might wear if I had an endless amount of money I could spend on clothes. They’re tough to pull off, not something I can wear often, and I may tire of them quickly. I really love the ones on the left though.
lynn
I kind of like it, but I don’t think I could pull it off. :-/
katie
I think we should stick to leather leggings, not a fan of how these look
Katha
i agree with chloe about the trash bag thing
Pomeline
Nooooooo. I doubt they would be flattering on my hourglass figure. Wonder if anyone with a figure other than the prototype model could pull it off? It’s cute on them! Just not on me :(
woody
I really think this is nice. woodn’t it be nice to see this with some nice sunglasses.

Aren’t leather pants kind of… sweaty? I wouldn’t wear them also because i’m sorry for the animals.
Julie
I’m with Chloe on this. I wouldn’t wear them.
Mariah
I love the look, I just can’t afford them :/
Valentina
I really don’t think that any normal girl would be able to pull this off.

I personally think these look great, and way classier than leather leggings. While the legging cut has high potential to look trashy, the looser style of these really works and i can think of so many outfits I could make with a pair of these.

My mum has a pair of leather pants from the 70s in dark brown leather – I wore them the other day and loved them! They’re supercool with just a white singlet. Totally awesome – but probably not spending the money on if they’re not a hand-me-down!

While that first photo almost one me over, I can’t help but think that this would be a very unflattering trend for many body types. Shiny + unfitted = unflattering for pants in my mind.

I thought of the first picture when I went shopping yesterday and saw a pair of silky textured harem-esque pants at Target that were the exact style of the first picture, I tried them on and fell in love! Then when I got home I saw a street style picture of a girl wearing the same exact pants. I think the harem pants are coming back in style, but with a shorter more flattering crotch, and a “boyfriend fit” flair to them. I’m actually loving the trend!
(Target has two pairs in stock right now, one with a raw elastic waistband and one with a drawstring waistband, both for $24.99. I now own both)
